Site Looks Different after domain transfer

  • Unknown's avatar

I just recently purchased my theme and domain mapping. After everything was configured, my site now looks different.

The theme has changed quite a bit of functionality, colors, fonts, backgrounds, etc. I am so confused on how this happened. The menu, response, etc. has changed too. Is this normal? A result of mapping or upgrading my theme?

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  • Mapping a domain shouldn’t affect the way your theme or customization functionality works.

Your site is currently running Yumblog:

Looks like prior to that it was running Dyad, and before that, Yumblog again.

Did you switch to Dyad accidentally, perhaps? Switching themes does clear out certain theme-specific settings like custom colours, menus, and CSS. Here are the theme-switch gotchas you can look at:

If there are specific things you’d like to get back to the way they were previously that you’re stuck on, just let me know and I’ll be glad to help.

    Hi There,

Yes, i did switch to Dyad by accident, but please note that this was after the changes happened. (I was shopping for other themes because I was a bit frustrated that details had changed on yumblog (after I purchased the theme).

Before, when I was building my site on yumblog (before purchase) my featured images were in cute, non-squared boxes, now they are straight boxes.

My menu appears different, mobile view different, and the posts don’t have the “continue reading” option that appear on the home page. I can provide you a few screen shots that will help better explain/show you what i mean. I would be forever grateful if you could help me tweak these a bit to how they were originally!

I’m not sure how to attach a screen shot here :(

  • Menu

You don’t currently have any of your two custom menus assigned to the theme – neither “My Menu” or “Menu 1” is assigned to any of the theme’s menu areas. For example, try assigning your desired menu to the Main Menu slot by checking its box in the Customizer:

To get the “continue reading” link on each post on the blog page, you need to add the More tag where you’d like the post to break – that’s what was done on the Yumblog demo site.

    Straight-cornered Images

Your straight-cornered images look the same as the ones on the demo – here’s an example: https://cloudup.com/cq5gXdWv_gk

The images with angled corners that I see on the demo are the ones in the slider at the top, but you don’t have a slider set up at the moment. Instructions for setting up a slider can be found here:

    https://theme.wordpress.com/themes/yumblog/support/

I’m not sure how to attach a screen shot here :(

You can upload the screenshot – in a graphic format like JPG, PNG, or PDF – in your Media Library and I’ll see it there, or you can link to it from there.

    Hi There,

Thanks for your help with the “continue reading” just fixed it!

I am wondering if you can elaborate on the “Menu” portion. I did what you said and it still comes up blue (want it to be white like screenshot). Also, I did several blog posts that had the cute edges, I never had a slider. . .

Lastly, the mobile view – you’ll notice it is much different now. Is there a way to fix this? I think the biggest difference is that there is no “Upload Logo” option after purchasing theme.

I’ve uploaded all the images to my media file. The first one is the mobile view, the third is the previous desktop view.

    Great!

I am wondering if you can elaborate on the “Menu” portion. I did what you said and it still comes up blue (want it to be white like screenshot).

This screenshot shows the theme Button, not Yumblog.

    https://buttondemo.wordpress.com/

You see the little grey button icons next to the headings in the sidebar? That’s the free Button theme. :)

Also, I did several blog posts that had the cute edges, I never had a slider. . .

Button has those cutout corner effects on its images. I think we’ve solved the mystery. :)

I think the biggest difference is that there is no “Upload Logo” option after purchasing theme.

    Button supports a logo upload.

If you prefer Button over Yumblog, you can issue yourself a refund for Yumblog in your dashboard, up to 30 days after the purchase.

  • p.s. Button automatically displays an excerpt on the blog page, so that explains why you were missing the “Continue reading” links. You’ll no longer need to manually add “More” links on each post if you switch back to Button.

WOW you were right! I can’t believe that I switched themes and didn’t realize it!

Thank you so much for your help.

  • You’re very welcome!
