I have tried but get an error returned about making the site visible to public. As far as I can tell the site is visible to public

This is the error message:
Your website needs to be publicly accessible to use Jetpack: site_inaccessible
Error Details: The Jetpack server was unable to communicate with your site [HTTP 403]. Ask your web host if they allow connections from WordPress.com. If you need further assistance, contact Jetpack Support: http://jetpack.me/support/ -
While your site is publicly accessible, we cannot access your site’s XML-RPC file:
http://ballantynephotography.com/xmlrpc.phpThis file is used by Jetpack and other plugins and apps to connect to your site. It must return the following message:
XML-RPC server accepts POST requests only. You can see a working example here:
Since your site returns a 404 error for this page, I would recommend that you check the following:
1) Can you see the /xmlrpc.php file at the root of your WordPress installation when accessing your site via FTP? If you don’t, then please try re-installing WordPress. You can do this by going to the Dashboard -> Upgrades page, then click the “Reinstall WordPress” button.
2) Do you use any security plugins that may block access to this file? If so, could you try to disable them?
3) Does your hosting provider block access to this file? If you don’t find any plugin that may block access to the file on your site, I would recommend that you get in touch with your host.

Thank you macmanx.
Alas no joy. Checked files mentioned all there. Don’t understand the code within them though.
Reinstalled WP as well. Still getting same error msg.
WP was working perfectly on host, until I deleted a file on WP.com
Not able to find a way to get WP to replace file.
May have to resort to rebuild with backup -
You might also want to try step 3, contacting your hosting provider, as they could be blocking the file. :)

macmanx thank you.
It would seem very strange that they would be. The file worked perfectly minutes before deletion of the file on wordpress.com. I will follow up for justin though :)
with regards to wordpress there is a section that enables me to add a site to wordpress.com. when I add ballantynephotography it tells me that name is already taken. Yet it is not visible on my WP.com information.
It was until I mistakenly deleted it. Is there a way to rectify this before I go any further?
My thanks again

It’s a misdirection. It probably worked great when you first connected Jetpack, but then some time later your host maybe implemented a security measure, and you would have never noticed if you didn’t need to re-connect. :)

That’s for adding WordPress.com sites. https://ballantynephotography.wordpress.com/ exists but was deleted by a user. Currently, we don’t recycle deleted blogs.
Self-hosted WordPress.org sites, like yours, can only be added via Jetpack

thanks again macmanx,
Jetpack is still not linking to WP.com.
I have reinstalled the WordPress on my host.It appears the deletion of the blog from WP.com is the issue. It is not letting me reconnect Ballantynephotography as the name already exists. Yet I have no access to it. It is not visible on my account.
I seem to be going round in circles.
Is there anything WP can do to reinstate the file/link or other to enable me to reactivate this link? Many thanks

You’re misunderstanding, sorry.
To add http://ballantynephotography.com/ to WordPress.com, you need to:
1. Install and activate the Jetpack plugin via the Plugins section of your blog’s Dashboard.
2. Visit the new Jetpack section in your blog’s Dashboard.
3. When prompted to connect, provide your WordPress.com account details and connect to WordPress.com.
Absolutely none of this is done on WordPress.com itself.

I forgot step 4.
Step 4 brings me back to my first reply 2 days ago, which is what your real problem is: https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/site-missing-from-my-sites?replies=11#post-2455908

thanks again :)
OK – I have spoken with host – xmlrpc.php file is not an issue they do not block anything.
I have reinstalled WordPress on the host and also reverted to earlier versions. On both occasions I have reinstalled Jetpack and on every occasion it is returning an error message.
I am not an expert but it would seem the error is relating to the fact that Jetpack cannot find ballantynephotography.com/wordpress.com because it has been deleted.
Likewise it cannot create a new link as WP.com is saying the name already exists.
In short fail! fail! How can we get round this?
Thanks for your continued assistance. -
This has nothing to do with WordPress.com, I assure you.
This is the problem: http://ballantynephotography.com/xmlrpc.php
It should be like this: http://jetpack.me/xmlrpc.php
If the file actually is there, you need to contact your hosting provider, as Jetpack requires it to operate.

Thanks again macmanx,
OK – here’s a question – what should the xmlrpc.php code look like?
I assume with renewed installations it refreshes?
my version has numerous references to a wordpress database. The file exists. What should it point to generate the reply you are referencing?
WordPress has been reinstalled no fewer than five times now, various different versions.
Jetpack has also been reinstalled several times on various different versions.
The host does not block xmlrpc.php files.
All security and plugins have been deactivated.
Yet on every occasion the error message is the same.Logic dictates that it is unable to communicate with the file that nolonger exists on WordPress.com – as it seems that is what they are all looking for?
I trust we can get to the bottom of this soon.
Many thanks again
