site name

    I went from free WP site to upgraded, then back to free. But the new url is not the same as when I was initially free. The url does not agree with the name of my site which should be Post-to-Print Publishers, instead it says posttoprintdotcom, which makes no sense to my readers. I haven’t been using or promoting the site since I switched back to free. I thought my URL would be post-to-printpublishers.wordpress.com or just post-to-print.wordpress.com. Is there any way to fix this issue? Do I need to delete the account and start over? Thanks.

    WP.com: Yes
    Correct account: Yes

    The blog I need help with is: (visible only to moderators and staff)

    It may have been a better idea to revert your site from a Business plan to a Personal plan with either a new or existing custom domain that suited you. As it is your free address is https://posttoprintdotcom.wordpress.com/ because that must be what you typed in when you created your site in the first place.
    That address has dotcom probably because

    posttoprint.wordpress.com is no longer available.
    The authors have deleted this site.

    If it was you that deleted that address then it was a big mistake as if it was deleted more than 30 days ago it is lost forever.
    You could create a new free site with the publishers.wordpress.com address you mention above (no hyphons though) and transfer your content to that site.
    But I now see someone had already tagged this thread for staff so perhaps they can shed more lighht on what your original free address was.

    Thanks. It might be better to try and find another host site–one that’s a little easier for non-techies. I upgraded for support services–I didn’t understand it only provided the domain URL (though the domain email address was nice to have). Again, tech “dummy” here. Unfortunately, since I don’t sell anything, it’s too expensive to keep. I do appreciate your quick response, though. Thanks again.

    Hi there!

    I checked your account and found that posttoprintdotcom.wordpress.com always was the free address of your site. You likely didn’t notice it because you had a custom domain on it. The site with the other address, posttoprint.wordpress.com, was deleted four years ago and there was no content on that site, so it wasn’t the actual site you had your content on.

    Are you no longer planning to use a custom domain on your site? You can still upgrade to any of the paid plans that suits your site’s needs and use a custom domain by following the instructions here (If you still own the domain elsewhere).

    I recommend checking out the following resources when you have time to become familiar with using WordPress.com:

    * Getting started with WordPress.com
    * Working with the block editor
    * Register for a free webinar
    * Check out WordPress courses

    Please note that we offer live chat and email support depending on the plan you have. Right now, you’re on the free plan. But you can see which plan has access to what type of support here: https://wordpress.com/support/help-support-options/

    You can also post on this forum (if you decide not to upgrade at this time) when you have more questions.

    Hope that helps!

    I personally haven’t found anywhere that’s easier to use for free than right here.
    Your only issue seems to be your dislike of the free address you chose and it is the work of moments to create another free site with an address you prefer.
