site name & blog name confusion
-
When I post to my blog, the ‘blog’ address shows as my ‘site’ address and the two are different.
In the settings it says:
“Please read carefully. This will change your site’s address (currently johnsmith.wordpress.com). This process cannot be reversed.PLUS: If you want to change the title of this blog (currently “billybloggs.co.uk”) you can do so under Settings.
PLUS: Current Address: billybloggs.wordpress.com”
On the settings page, the ‘site title’ (blog name) is billybloggs. That is correct, but not what comes up on the posts, which is johnsmith. So, the blog details show that it’s posted from the site address johnsmith not from the blog address billybloggs (as shown above and is confirmed as my blog address.)
How do I post as the blog address not the site address? Or what changes do or can I make, that don’t delete my account or similar?
My wordpress login name is johnsmith via my website billybloggs which is why I want the blog posts to show as coming from billybloggs – so I am not sure what bearing this has on getting the blog posts to show as billybloggs without disabling either the website redirect or my wordpress account?
NB the blog names have been changed for illustration purposes
I hope this isn’t too confusing but any help greatly appreciated THANK YOU
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi,
These (site address, site title, login name and display name) are all different things. I think you only need to change the display name for what you need.
Display name
You can change your Display Name here where it says “Display Name publicly as”:
https://dashboard.wordpress.com/wp-admin/users.php?page=grofiles-editorYou will also see your username (login name) there which is a separate thing from your Display Name.
Blog vs. Website
A blog is a type of website. But in WordPress, the word blog and the word site/website are used interchangeably so whenever you see blog, it also means site and whenever you see site, it also means blog.
Site Address
Your site address is in the format of johnsmith.wordpress.com. If you bought a custom domain, you also have a name like billybloggs.co.uk. The site address is the same as a domain name.
Your site address is NOT the title of your site.
You probably have this all set up correctly so you don’t need to change your website address at all.
Learn more about domains here:
http://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/Site title
The site title is what usually appears on the header of your site (if you didn’t disable showing it).
Here’s how to change your site title:
http://en.support.wordpress.com/settings/general-settings/I hope that clears it up.

thanks for your thoughtful reply
I’ve had a dig around although the problem still exists: that the blog is posting as my user name, not as my display name, and whereas I can change the display name (which is right anyway, so no need to change it)…
…I can’t change the user name, without compromising my settings, my account or my domain name in some way, by undertaking a non-reversible action, with an unknown outcome, that cannot be undone.
That’s the gist of my problem.
my display name and site title are both largent-art, but my posts show my user name – and that’s wrong surely? So I’m just trying to work out, why it is posting the username instead of the display name or the site title.
Can I disable the user name in someway? I don’t see any way to edit it out, and technically I shouldn’t have to change the user name to stop it being tagged to my posts.. I would have thought it shouldn’t be tagging there anyway?
Thank you

thanks raincoaster –
a little extreme for such a minor problem maybe, but if so, how do I know which themes don’t display the user name on the blog?
Is there a way of finding out if the user name is the default for the blog name on the theme I have?
thx

You can click to Preview any theme on the dashboard Themes page (don’t click Activate unless you want it). I can’t find a list of which do display names and which don’t.
