why does my site name have dot in it instead of a period?
I thought I was registering for .me.wordpress.com
Instead I got dotme.wordpress.com
The dot after my site name looks a little awkward.
Thansk. The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

This URL http://writesofpassage.me.wordpress.com/ already exists and that’s why you cannot register it. The software provided a URl that you could register.

re: changing a blog address
If you want to change the .wordpress.com blog address ie. the URL starting with http:// then you must be logged in as Admin under the exact same username account that registered the blog to do that and the URL you desire must be available. If so, then you can change the URL by using the guide http://en.support.wordpress.com/changing-blog-address/Be sure to locate the correct page http://en.support.files.wordpress.com/2011/01/dashboard-e1371648470893.png
Changing a URL is a permanent and irreversible act. No changed or deleted blog URLs are recycled here, regardless of who registered and deleted them and no exceptions are made.
http://en.support.wordpress.com/recycling-blog-names/re: domain mapping
If you want to purchase domain mapping upgrade then read and act on what follows. In order to map to a domain one must have an underlying .wordpress.com subdomain blog to map from (what that URL is does not matter), and the domain name you desire must be available for purchase, or you must already own the domain URL.
You must be logged in as Admin http://en.support.wordpress.com/user-roles/#administrator under the exact same username account that registered the blog to access the blog’s dashboard at > Store > My Upgrades to purchase upgrades for the blog.
See here if you do not own a domain http://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/
See here for mapping an existing domain that you already own http://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/map-existing-domain/
if you already have a website you don’t want to affect, and you want to add a blog to it under a subdomain (for example, blog.yourgroovydomain.com) see here http://support.wordpress.com/domain-mapping/map-subdomain/
After you do the primary blog set up it can take between 24 – 72 hours for domain name propagation to take place throughout the internet. You can view the DNS changes here > http://www.whatsmydns.net/ What’s important during that stage is to be patient.

I appreciate your help. Very much brand -new.
When I did the registering, writesofpassage.wordpress.com was, of course, shown to be taken and gave me the following options.
writesofpassage.co
writesofpassage.me
writesofpassage.biz
I picked the .me and got dotme. That is why I am a little confused. And still am. If I had picked one of the others would it have shown up as dot instead of . ?
Thank you. -
The suggestion of writesofpassage.me – is for a custom domain name and mapping $18.-/yr – that causes writesofpassage.me to be displayed to visitors and not writesofpassagedotme.wordpress.com.

Is there support available besides a public forum? Every Support I’ve followed leads back to the public forum. Don’t get me wrong. I appreciate it very much.
Your advice, Auxclass, is what I would like to do. However the closest option I’ve found is registering the domain WOP.me (instead of the dotme) and it is for $25 not the $18 mentioned when i first started.
So I’m worried that I will then have two domains.
The more I read the more confused I get. -
the $25.-/yr sounds like they added the “Privacy” option to the registration – that is not required for registration and mapping – you should be able to not have the privacy option if you don’t want it
All internet names require contact information to be publicly available (your name, address, email etc) – the privacy option puts a third party between you and the internet –
Since there seems to be problem with the price options I have also flagged this for staff attention

Hi there,
I’m sorry for the confusion! Some domains, like domains ending in .com are $18/year, but some other domains are a bit more expensive. Domains ending in .me are $25/year. You can take a look at the full list of available domain extensions to see the price for each one.
The domain registration for writesofpassage.me didn’t go through when you created the site (sorry about that!) but you can still register that from your Domains page for $25/year. Please let me know if you have any other questions or concerns about that.
