Site Navigation

I am completely new to this WordPress blogging so forgive me for such a basic question. I have created a website using 2010 template. The first page that people come to is the blog page where I make a post and have comments. That is a dynamic page that will be updated. I have also created additional pages: Buy Book, Buy Audio, Podcasts, Videos, About me.

Anybody arriving at my page will have access to my posts. They also will have the option to browse my other pages. Let’s say they click on each page. How do they easily get back to the first page which has my blog posts without hitting the back button 5 times?

I’m missing something obvious and yet I’ve wrestled for hours trying to figure this out. I need a button at the bottom to return to the home page or a tab that takes them to the home page but if I create a ‘Home’ page, the URL is different than the initial home page that has my blog posts. I sincerely thank you for any help.

  • Hi

What’s the URL or address of the site that you are working on? I’ll be glad to take a look and give you a few tips to accomplish what you are tying to do.

On most WordPress websites, clicking the site title (usually found in the upper left hand corner) will take you back to the site’s homepage. But, I know that’s not always obvious to a lot of readers, so adding a second way to get back can be a good idea. Let me know your URL and we’ll see what we can do.

    Hello Melinda,
Thank you so much for your offer to help. While wrestling with this problem, I did see that the site title was a link back to the landing page. It was just by chance I noticed it was a link. That got me to thinking. I believe I found an answer to the problem.

I went to Appearance, then menus. On the left hand side is a “custom links” . I knew the URL of my landing page and put that in the URL address area. I named it “Home” and then added it to my main menu. It seems to work just fine. I don’t know if that’s a legitimate fix but it seems to work so I’m happy.

In essence, I really didn’t create a home page. All I did was create a menu button titled home and directed that button back to my initial landing page. I spent hours searching on the net and youtubes and could not find any reference to this problem. Hopefully this will help someone else out. I wish you all the best and appreciate your time. Thank you Melinda! Ron
