Site no longer exists after changing site address

  • Unknown's avatar

I tried to change my site’s address from firstlinesportsanalyticscom.wordpress.com to firstlineanalytics.wordpress.com. When I got to firstlineanalytics.wordpress.com it says the site does not exist and asks whether I’d like to register it. When I go to the original address, I get redirected to the same page. I can’t access the admin page for this site anymore, but I can get to the normal editor site. There it will say that the address is firstlineanalytics.wordpress.com everywhere except for when I go to the ‘change site address’ option. There, it still says the original address is the site address. And if I go and try and change it like I had before, it will let me try and change it to firstlineanalytics.wordpress.com (for some reason it doesn’t say it’s taken) but will not let me change it back to the original address. When I type it into the text field, the button to confirm the changes doesn’t light up, so THAT part of the page still thinks that the originial address is being used.

  • Hi there,

When I check on our end I can confirm that the site address firstlinesportsanalytics.wordpress.com has never been used on our system.

I do see that when you created your site with us it originally had this address:
firstlinesportsanalyticscom.wordpress.com but have since renamed it to firstlinesportsanalytics.wordpress.com, but you have had only this one site with us (which you have renamed) and do not have multiple sites.

With this in mind, if you wish you can change the address to firstlinesportsanalytics.wordpress.com (it is available in our system) but I can confirm that you have not used that address to this point, and do not have “another site” at that address.

If you wish to change from firstlinesportsanalytics.wordpress.com to firstlinesportsanalytic.wordpress.com you can do so here: https://wordpress.com/domains/manage/firstlinesportsanalyticscom.wordpress.com/change-site-address/firstlineanalytics.wordpress.com

    Hope this helps

yes as soon as I changed it to firstlinesportsanalytic.wordpress.com it is working fine now! Thank you! Was this most likely that when I tried to change it the first time, it just didn’t take properly? And we are planning on buying our own custom domain soon, is there a possibility we will run into a similar problem?

  • It sounds more like a typo when trying to access the site (the “s” at the end).

If you register a custom domain it will hide the .wordpress.com subdomain for anyone and you shoudln’t have any issues with it :)
