Site no longer functional after years in hibernation.
-
Hi team,
I’ve just returned to my blog after about 4 years but I can’t do simple tasks like viewing pages in the admin console and can’t apply new theme via the theme browser. My theme is no longer supported. Most things end up with the ‘Cheatin’ uh?’ error.
I guess my site is stuck due to the large number changes that have occurred over the years.
Is there a way to force my site to refresh with a current theme?
Any advice on how to resolve this?
Rich

You should be able to change to a new theme, the base software is taken care of and updated by the staff so that should not be an issue.
What browser are you using and type of internet connection?
See if any of these fixes help: http://en.support.wordpress.com/browser-issues/

Thanks Bobdavcav!
Hi Auxclass,
I can’t change to a new theme. When I browse themes I can click activate but it doesn’t, when I browse the dashboard for richbayliss.wordpress.com a lot of the functionality is missing.
I know it’s not a browser issue because I don’t see these issues on the new blog I created to workaround this.
But just to answer you, I’ve tried with both the latest safari and firefox issue and have tried on my home internet (100Mbps HFC) and at work.
Thanks to both for responding so quickly!

Hello there Rich!
To change the theme of your old blog, you need to log in as the blog’s Administrator. Right now, your username “rbbayliss” is an Author of the blog and that may be why many functions you might be used to seeing are not there.
http://en.support.wordpress.com/user-roles/#administrator
If you cannot remember the password for the Administrator account of the blog, try using our lost password form:
https://en.wordpress.com/wp-login.php?action=lostpassword
Or try our Account Recovery Tool:
https://en.wordpress.com/wp-login.php?action=recovery
A Happiness Engineer will respond and discuss the issue with you privately.
My theme is no longer supported.
That’s correct, the Simpla theme is retired. We do not recommend the use of retired themes, however, you may continue using the Simpla theme on your old blog.
Let me know if need further assistance!
Cheers,
Andrew D.

Thanks Andrew.
I’m pretty sure you’re right. I’ll go through the recovery process to regain admin access.

Thanks Andrew,
That was it! I forgot that I had used two separate emails at different points in time. My other email was administrator.
Thanks
