site not loading

I up loaded a new post recently. Supposedly it uploaded correctly but I cannot pull it up — nor can I pull up my site at all.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi! We haven’t had any downtime recently; was there any specific error you were seeing when trying to reach http://book-of-days-tales.com/ ?
-
No, it simply will not load. When I enter the URL it eventually times out and says “try again later” — and this is true whatever browser I use. Can you pull up my posts?

Hello there @bookofdaystales!
Thank you for sharing some more about what you’re experiencing on your end.
I tried the site and a few posts, in several browsers (Chrome, FIrefox and Safari) and was able to see it loaded in all of them.
Can you try some of the browser and internet connection troubleshooting, outlined in the link I’m sharing below, and test if this helps.
https://wordpress.com/support/browser-issues/
Thank you!

I followed all the instructions including clearing the cache, browser history, etc. Still cannot pull up the site. All I get is:
The connection has timed out
The server at http://www.book-of-days-tales.com is taking too long to respond.

To avoid any confusion, your website is hosted on WordPress.com and can be accessed without the “www” at this URL: https://book-of-days-tales.com/
The error you mentioned in your dashboard is related to another site, https://www.thepathinwards.com/, which is currently not loading. This issue might be the reason you couldn’t access the dashboard of book-of-days-tales.com.
To resolve this, I have disconnected the problematic site as it hasn’t communicated with our servers for a few years. This action should remove the prompt to fix the connection, which may have been causing the problems you experienced. Could you please try accessing your dashboard again at https://wordpress.com/home/book-of-days-tales.com and see if the issue is now resolved?
If you still encounter any difficulties, please don’t hesitate to let us know! We’re here to help.

Thanks. I seem to be back in business. thepathinwards.com was a site a friend of mine was supposed to create, but never did, so disconnecting it is fine.
-
Spoke too soon. I can pull up my dashboard and I can create new posts, but I cannot pull them up. https://book-of-days-tales.com/ still gives me a timeout message. When I try to review a post from my editor I also get a timeout message.

You may clear away old accounts (which I no longer use), and just leave up the current one.

I had a look but it doesn’t seem like there are any other defunct sites associated with your WordPress.com account!
I am wondering if this might be related to your internet connection. Do you have the opportunity to test using a different internet connection to view (or even manage) your site? It might be worth trying to install the Jetpack mobile app on a smartphone that uses mobile data only (no WiFi) and see if this gives you the same problems.
Alternatively, would you have access to a VPN that you could use?
-
OK — using a VPN solved the problem. But why is this only happening now? My internet connection is via my apartment building’s service and it always used to pull up my site with no problem. This issue just began in the past week.
-
I would recommend opening a support ticket with the apartment building to let them know that last week you were able to access your site, this week you cannot. It’s possible they have upgraded or modified the settings on their end which has created this issue for you. Making them aware of this gives them the best chance to improve this for you on their Internet service they are providing you.
It may also be worth investigating this further; ideas like the following…
- Have a neighbor using the same connection try to view your site; what is the result?
- Visit your site using cell data only (not Wifi), that result?
- Try viewing your site from a local coffee shop using different Internet service; what is the result?
These will help you and us understand what the limitations are for viewing your site. If you learn that viewing your site from anywhere in your immediate area, regardless of the Internet service, is very difficult, that will be very helpful for us to know.

Thanks for continued support. The “problem” (actually good news) is that now I can pull up my dashboard and blog without effort and without a VPN, so the causes of the difficulties of the past week will have to remain a mystery until they recur. At least I now know that I can circumvent the problem with a VPN and if it happens again I will try your solutions. I live in Cambodia which means that (a) internet service is dodgy at the best of times, and (b) getting help from others is not always easy. I can enlist the building staff, though, but not my neighbors who typically speak Chinese and mostly keep to themselves. Thanks again.

I’m glad it’s working again for now at least! Hopefully this doesn’t happen again for you, but if anything else comes up please do let us know and we’ll be happy to check things over with you.
