Site note rendering/Can't access setting/Need to reset domain settings

  • Unknown's avatar

Hello. I have recently transferred a domain from godaddy to google. It appears that some of the settings did not transfer over.

My site is no longer linked. It serves up a blank page when visited. I can’t access the settings or admin panel in WP.

I (think I) need to verify the settings that I need to enter on my domain panel to link the website again.

Can you help guide me on how to do this.

    Thanks, Judd

    Hi Judd,

Are you referring to positivelastingimpact.com? If so, I’m afraid I’m not going to be able to be much help. We’re only able to help with WordPress.com sites. This site looks to be self-hosted. You can read about the difference here:

    WordPress.com vs. WordPress.org

It looks like WordPress may not be installed on the hosting service where the domain is currently hosted. I would recommend reaching out to your host for some additional help!

Thanks, Jeremy. Obviously I have made some errors in the transition. I moved hosting from Godaddy to Google domains. I am a bit unsure on how I should ask for guidance from Google.

Would you be so kind as to give me a bit more (technical) direction on the types of questions that I need to ask, please.

    Thanks, Judd

    Hey Judd,

No problem! I just chatted with a Google rep, and they actually indicated that Google Domains doesn’t offer hosting at the current moment. Perhaps you transferred the registration only? It may help to break down the difference between registration and hosting:

Registration – You can think of this as the “paperwork” proving ownership of the domain. It lets you manage the domain, add email to the domain, etc.

Hosting – This is where your actual site data is stored. WordPress would be installed on your hosting service. All of your content would live on their servers.

For your domain to work correctly, we need the registration and hosting to “communicate.” Usually, this is done by “pointing” a domain to your host. Think of it like telling your domain “go look here for information.” So, your domain could be registered with Google Domains, but your site may be hosted still with GoDaddy. Does that help to clarify?

Do you have an account still with GoDaddy for hosting only?
