Site organization

My blog at this point seems to be a bunch of random posts that are buried within categories and archives. Is there an optimal way to have the most recent posts on the static/home page, then perhaps give each category its own page with links to other posts from that category in the sidebar? (does that make sense?) I’m a wordpress.com user, not wordpress.org; don’t know if that makes any difference with regard to my question. Thanks. :)

Part of what you are describing is what the categories widget does. People click on the category they want to review and it brings up only those posts in that category. When I click on “Politics” in your category dropdown, I get this: http://alexawrites.wordpress.com/category/politics/ . Perhaps a reorganization of your sidebar would help. Put categories at the top in the double-width part of the sidebar and instead of having it as a pulldown, have it as a list. That way people can see the names of the categories.

So, rather than giving each category its own page, just have a list of categories in the double-width widget and lose the category drop-down? Something that simple would be better?

Richard: I just visited your site and I REALLY like how you’ve organized it. It’s very reader/visitor friendly. I am going to try to tinker around on mine today to see whether I “get” it. Also….FANTASTIC quote about external distress. All the best…

Another question….so you assign each category to a “parent”? Is that how you are able to organize it the way you have done?
