Site Perpetuity
-
I’d like to know if I upgrade to a premium package on wordpress.com and I die if the site can be set back to a std. free site? I have stage IV cancer so this is something that’s going to occur in the next 1-2 years and I’d like my site to be available after I pass away, just not sure what would be the best route to take. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

When an Upgrade is not paid, the site reverts – sometimes it seems the custom url stuff hangs around for a while
What part of the Upgrade package do you need?
For easiest access by your friends and such, leave the blog name alone – then they will not get used to a custom domain name and have trouble finding your site after the custom domain name expires
CSS – site would revert back to original look
If you have space upgrades or Videopress upgrade – when they expire you could not upload additional media and video – but the old media (pictures) and videos would remain and be able to be seen by your friends

auxclass – thank you that’s exactly the answer’s I was looking for and a solid reason to move my hosted site over to wordpress.com
Thank you! -
You be welcome & good luck
When you move your site & map the domain name – you might think about setting the Primary Domain to the WordPress.COM address or make sure that you have a trusted person that will pay for the domain registration and domain mapping so people don’t get lost and not be able to find your blog
I will flag this for the staff to wade in also on the domain name – they are in a meetup for the company plotting how to rule the world or something :)
Also set the comments to close on a Post after some time – maybe 60 or 90 days – moderate comments, have a friend moderate the comments when you are no longer able to – with the close after a time – that will make their job go away after a while – they can after things are over – leave one last Post with comments open if they want
Several other people in your situation have had their blogs here – I think you are the 5th person I have helped like you
The support forum here is pretty good if you have more questions

@mikekenney, as @captmike indicated, your best bet is to keep your current free domain mikekenney.wordpress.com. This domain name will not expire.
Best of luck with your fight against cancer. If you have any other questions, don’t hesitate to ask.
