    Can I turn Site Previews off for my Blog. Some people find them Annoying. Thanks

    The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

    We can’t answer without a link to the blog, starting with http.

    This thread gives some useful tips for getting your problems solved faster:

    @raincoaster
    I don’t know if you have message that on automatic or not, but its completely irrelevant. Do you even read the question??

    @johnfhughes
    you can switch it off if you hover over a link and the Site Preview window pops up, in the lower right corner of that window is an option to switch it OFF.

    What are you talking about? I post that a thousand times a day. The answer depends on where the blog is hosted and what kind of previews are running.

    Fully a third of questions some days relate to blogs which are not hosted by WordPress.com. You can waste your time giving incorrect answers or guessing if you like, but that thread gives instructions on how to ask questions in the forum. If you haven’t read it yet, please do so now.

    Well knowing your arrogant additude it wouldnt surprise me that you dont even read the question and just blindly paste that response (which is quite often). I dont think a blogger from Blogger would post his Q’s in a WP forum (if it does then its just dumb though).

  • Unknown's avatar

    And you dont have to tell me what to read, you’re not my dad.

    @starsquid,

    rain is a woman…

    And it is not necessarily Blogger blogs that are troublesome, but people from wp.org. Their software is different from ours at wp.com. Or someone is asking about another blog than is easily found by adding NAME.wordpress.com…

    Trust me, I’ve spent lots of time answering a question, lots of back and forth, only to find the OP says “Oh, that is not the blog I was talking about…”

    Really it is not much to ask that posters provided a link to the site they are asking about.

    Oh, and a blogger on wp.com can turn off the annoying previews w/o making readers deal with it:
    dashboard —>appearance—>extras—>untick ‘Enable mShots site previews on this blog’

  • Unknown's avatar

    No way! seriously? a coding chick?! I’m in luuuuv
    Anyways, raincoaster’s still low on my list

    You’re still my fav coding chick 1tess!

  • Unknown's avatar

    LOL
    And you are still my fav Japanese speaking photographer squid…

  • Unknown's avatar

    In this case the blog is a private wordpress.com blog. wordpress.com blogs do have Mshots. wordpress.org blogs do not, unless the blogger choses to install a pluin. What useful purpose would it serve to give wordpress.com instructions to a wordpress.org blogger who would be looking on their dashboard for a section that’s not there?

    tt~~?
    there are legitimate reasons to ask for a link to the blog in question…

    ≥^!^≤

  • Unknown's avatar

    ~~ @Tess
    Indeed there are legitmate reason for asking for the URL, because as raincoaster said above, some days one third of the questions answered by volunteers on this forum are being posted by wordpress.org bloggers. :)

  • Unknown's avatar

    @starsquid: My equally “blind” stock response (yes, copy-pasted of course) is this:

    Please paste the URL of your blog when asking questions here, or link your username to your blog (as explained in the Sticky 8 Things to Know before Posting). We can’t help without that.

    And yes, raincoaster isn’t your dad, but you should have read the thread she told you to.

    We don’t reply if we don’t have a link to the blog because:
    a) we get a lot of wrong visits from wp.ORG bloggers, to whom our answers don’t apply, and who must be directed to their own forum;
    b) often we have to see the blog itself before we can give a good answer, because the answer may be theme-dependent, because we may need to check the sourcecode to find out what or where the problem is, because the user may be unable to describe the situation well, etc.;
    c) although sometimes the username is also the blog name, this isn’t always the case, we are not oblidged to try it, and it’s not safe anyway: sometimes a volunteer gives a reply and gets greeted with “oh no, not that blog, the other one!”.

    Raincoaster isn’t doing that because she’s arrogant but because she’s one of the most experienced forum volunteers. You are being arrogant without reason.

    timethief: As I’m sure you know, I was not questioning the value of asking for a link!! (just why it seemed you maybe did not like my answer re m-shots…)

    I guess I am not understanding why we are having a tiff in a teapot!

    Seems (the very smart, brilliant) starsquid has understood the situation from all of our very polite and coherent answers here…

  • Unknown's avatar

    Good lord, what a bizarre little freakout.

  • Unknown's avatar

    @Tes
    TIKES! You completely misunderstood me. We are not having a tiff at all. I thought I was agreeing with you and with raincoaster too. :(

  • Unknown's avatar

    @tt,
    OOO sorry. Text, typing etc. just never conveys all the tones and facial expressions of a real conversation!

    @raincoaster:
    bizarre??
    freakout???

    little//?

    @tt,
    did you look at your email re tables?

  • Unknown's avatar

    tt, never mind. got it…
