site re-direct versus domain mapping
-
Used wordpress.com to create a website – purely information based – not interactive. Would like to lose the “.wordpress.com” in the url. I own a domain name. That said, why would I re-direct the site to new host instead of domain mapping it? (I will be adding and/or changing content on the site from time to time). thnx
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Domain mapping and site redirect are two different things for two different purposes.
Redirect is if you had a blog here and then move to, say, a self-hosted blog at godaddy or bluehost and wanted to redirect the traffic to your old blog, blog.wordpress.com, to your new blog and domain at godaddy or bluehost, blog.com.
Domain mapping is used to put your own custom domain name (URL) on a blog hosted here so that it appears with your chosen domain name.
You want domain mapping since your blog is hosted here.
