Site Recovery

    Hi There,

I’m trying to recover a site that was built by a 3rd party contractor that unfortunately has died. He had provided us with the login information but the password is not working. If I try to reset the password the link will be sent to the contractors email, not ours. The domain has also become disconnected from WordPress so I don’t think that will work either. As well all payments and transaction IDs would have been sent to him and not myself. Is there anything I can do to recover the site and reconnect the domain?

    Hi there:

I’m not showing that primemds.com was ever hosted here at WordPress.com so we’re limited in what we can help with and advise.

To avoid confusion, there are three different “WordPress” at play here:

    1. The free, open-source WordPress software which powers your website.
    2. WordPress.org which is the open-source project that works on the WordPress software and where you can get the software for free to use on your own hosting provider.
    3. WordPress.com which is a managed hosting provider of the WordPress software and with whom you’re contacting now.

You might want to reach out to the contractor’s next of kin to see if they’re able to help you with getting those password resets or access to the hosting account for your site. Or, if you know who they were using to host your site, the hosting provider may have some policies in place for how to transfer ownership of a site when the owner has passed away.

    I hope that helps!
