Site Redirect
-
I’ve decided to have my website hosted by a web host, and not wordpress.com anymore. That said, I have 2 questions:
1) my site domain name will remain the same. Do I still have to make a ‘site redirect’ upgrade?
2) I exported the xml file, although it shows up as a Safari doc. Where do I put this in my (new) file directory? I already downloaded the Theme I was using for my original .COM site, and stuck that in my themes folder.
Heaps o’ Thanks !

This should help: http://en.support.wordpress.com/moving-a-blog/#moving-to-wordpress-org
If you have had a custom domain name for quite a while (or since you started your blog here) then the need for a site redirect is reduced as search engines will already have the custom domain name mapped and sites inking to your site will be using the custom domain name
the site redirect is for when there are links to the base WordPress.COM site and you don’t want to loose that traffic.

I started my domain name here at wordpress.com, literally less than a week ago.
Must I go through this process (http://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/transfer-domain-registration/), even though my domain name remains the same, despite moving my content to an independent webhost ?
Must I also update the ‘nameserver’ stuff ? (http://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/domain-management/#update-nameservers)
Thanks!

Your account is 6 days old – I am assuming then that you registered and mapped //www.mattmm.com/ from day one – in that case domain forwarding is wasted money
You can’t change registers for 60 days – internet fraud rule
Yes the name servers need to be changed – that tells the world that your blog is now located on a different host
You should be able to just change the name servers to point to your new host – your new host will be able to give you the name server settings –
