I just bought a domain and hosting service from another company (SiteGround). I want to redirect my wordpress.com to my new .com domain. I’ve tried purchasing a Site Redirect to the new site but it won’t complete. Is this not the way to go?

If you have already set up your new self-hosted site on your domain, you can follow the instructions to redirect the links from your WordPressdotcom website to your new self-hosted site/domain.
Pay attention to the “Please note” on that page as the site redirect upgrade will only work if your new self-hosted website maintains the same URL structure as your WordPressdotcom website.

Yes, I was doing it through that link.
When I clicked “Pay $13” after filling in all my info, nothing happened. I’m assuming because I’m trying to redirect a mysite.wordpress.com to a mysite.com ?

No, that’s exactly what the Site Redirect is for. This rather sounds like an error on the payments page.
Can you please clear your browser’s cache and cookies and try again? If it still won’t work, let me know and also let me know the URL of the WordPress.com site where you’re trying to add the upgrade, and the URL of the custom domain you want to redirect to.
