Site redirect and stats

  • Unknown's avatar

I just moved my blog to my self-hosted website using Site Redirect and that worked fine. However I am now seeing that I don’t have any stats for today which is unheard of so I am assuming that I have lost that. Did I do something wrong? Is there some way to keep that?

Also do people who have already signed up to receive notice of new posts prior to the redirect continue to receive them?

    Thanks,
    Rose

    Hi Rose,

If you are using WordPress.org on your self-hosted website, you can install the Jetpack plugin to get a lot of cool WordPress.com features on your site.

If you have Jetpack, we can also transfer your subscribers to your self-hosted site for you. You can learn more about that here: Moving Your Subscribers

In some cases, we can also then transfer your stats over, too. However, the content on your self-hosted website has to be an exact copy of your WordPress.com site that you exported from WordPress.com and imported into WordPress.org. Otherwise, the stats won’t match up and we can’t transfer them.

Please let me know if you have any questions about that!

I’m not very tech savvy, so I am not certain but I am thinking that my answer is probably, “No, I don’t have WordPress.org” since my blog theme is Atahualpa which is free. The content is the same as my old blog. Is there anything that can be done?

    Hi Rose,

If your blog is self-hosted (meaning that it isn’t hosted here at WordPress.com) but it still has a WordPress dashboard, that means it’s using the WordPress.org software.

I just checked your Site Redirect upgrade and see that it’s pointing to your self-hosted site here: http://reikishamanic.com/blog/

The blog at that link is using WordPress.org, so you’ll need to install the Jetpack plugin on your site for us to help with this. If you have any questions about installing Jetpack, you can get support from our Jetpack team here:

Please let me know if you have any other questions about that!

Okay, next questions. What happens to all of my already existing subscribers? Do they receive notice of the new posts that I create on my self-hosted website?

And it does not look like my old stat history is imported into the new. Am I correct in thinking that can’t be done?

Hopefully this is the final question – this is definitely a voyage of discovery. Jetpack stats are now up and working, however they are tracking traffic for all of the posts on other pages on my website, not just the blog page. Is there any way to narrow that down?

    Thanks!

Hi there, I just started the process to transfer your subscribers to your new blog. They should appear there soon.

Your email followers will continue to receive email updates, and your WordPress.com followers will continue to see your new posts in the Reader. If your WordPress.com followers would like to receive email updates, as well, they can subscribe via email on your new blog.

However, unfortunately, your old stats can’t be transferred to the new blog. However, Jetpack will keep track of all of your new stats from here on out! The Jetpack stats will track all of the pages on your site, not just the blog posts. The stats work just like stats on WordPress.com: Stats

Please let me know if you have any other questions!

    Thanks, your explanations definitely helped.
