Site Redirect : can I leave my images on wordpress.com server?
-
When redirecting site can I keep my images on wordpress.com and have them linked from the new server… ie, old pages to display images using original URL (eg. http://domain.files.wordpress.com/2013 etc) .
I found that when importing images from the wordpress.com site to the new domain, I had problems with the image URL’s because of the .jpg?w=225&h=300 format. So I have imported the old content without the images, and the images appear on the pages linked from their original wordpress.com locations.
Obviously, this would only apply to archived posts…. new posts and pages would use images sitting on the new server.
Cheers.

You didn’t say, but I assume you have migrated to a self-hosted WordPress.org site. If so you can import the images and use Photon in Jetpack to serve them. This lets you keep the resizing and other WordPress.com image features fully functional, but lets you have your images on the same server as your site. You can read more about Photon at http://jetpack.me/support/photon/.
