Site Redirect for individual blog posts

Is there a way for the $13 Site Redirect upgrade to forward the individual posts from old links to new links, instead of just sending visitors to my new homepage?

For example, on an old Facebook post, if someone clicks that link how can I make it go to that same post on my new site versus just the homepage.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

    Hi there,

In order for the individual post URLs to redirect to the same post on the new website the post slugs will need to match. For example, you currently have your blog posts on your self-hosted site to just include the name in the post slug as shown here:

    http://memphistypehistory.com/britlings-fine-dining/

However, at WordPress.com, the same post reads like this:

    http://memphistypehistory.com/2014/07/29/britlings-fine-dining/

The addition of the date can throw off the redirect and lead to it not linking to the correct post.

In order for this to work flawlessly, you’ll need to change the permalinks on your self-hosted site by navigating to Settings -> Permalinks. You’ll want to set “Day and name”. Then, your post URLs should match identically, and you shouldn’t have any additional trouble.

Please let me know if you need anything else!

Can I do this the other way around? I’d rather keep my self-hosted URLs as they are with just the name, no date. So can I change my wordpress.com permalinks instead to match my self-hosted link structure?

    Howdy!

WordPress.com permalinks aren’t able to be changed so unfortunately that won’t work. The other issue is that if you’ve shared articles from your WordPress.com blog, the links across all of your social networks are going to read “/year/month/day/post-name”. So, in order for those to find the correct post on your self-hosted site, you’ll need to change the permalinks there.

Keep in mind that this isn’t required. But, if you want the old links to your site to find the correct URL, you’ll need to change the permalinks on your self-hosted site to match WordPress.com.
