"Site redirect" invalid URL
-
Hi
One of my friends, a WordPress.com user, is trying to redirect its WordPress.com-hosted blog to a self-hosted instance. But when she tries to use the “Site redirect” option, it says the URL is “invalid”.
You can try with blog.lahaut.info or penserclasser.fr domain names, the problem is the same.
I think it can be server-related (we have a firewall on the webserver) but I cannot find which tests WordPress.com make to check if the URL is valid.
If you have any details about it, it can help me :)
Thanks

Hi Samy – What’s the WordPress.com blog your friend is trying to redirect to her self-hosted site? I’ll take a look.

In fact, we were trying to transfer :
penserclasser.wordpress.com
to
penserclasser.fr
But it seems some security tests made by WordPress.com to check the URL validity block the transfer.
So, I solved the problem by transferring to penserclasser.com which makes 301 redirection to penserclasser.fr
But the problem is the same with all the WordPress websites I should host on my server (it seems to be XML-RPC related)

I would wait for staff to sort this out (possibly a filter sees “.fr” domains as invalid). A double redirect adds another potential “failure point” and may add delay.

Hi Samy,
Which of the following do you want to do:
1. Map the domain http://penserclasser.fr/ to the blog hosted here on WordPress.com, so that your hosting remains here on WordPress.com for free but at your domain instead of the free URL; or
2. Move the content that’s currently in the WordPress.com blog, penserclasser.wordpress.com, to the WordPress site that’s hosted with OVH SAS?
Either is possible. It just depends on where you ultimately want to host the site. Currently, you have a site hosted with WordPress.com and another hosted with OVH SAS.

– I already exported the content from http://penserclasser.wordpress.com to http://penserclasser.fr OVH-hosted instance
– I was just trying to redirect http://penserclasser.wordpress.com to http://penserclasser.frBut this redirection couldn’t be made so I was forced to use an other domain (http://penserclasser.com) as target for my redirect (and to use another redirection from http://penserclasser.com to http://penserclasser.fr)
In fact, I just wanted to know what I know to “unlock” on my webserver security system to let WordPress make redirects to my webservers
(so I needed to know what were the requirements to avoid “Invalid URL” problems)

Hi Samy,
Ok, I understand now. I’m not sure why you were getting that error. I was able to add the redirect for you on my end. Are you all set now?
-
If you can change the redirect to send http://penserclasser.wordpress.com to http://penserclasser.fr (without using http://penserclasser.com as temporary redirect), it would be nice.
Otherwise, it is ok :)
Thanks

Hi Samy – Currently, it is redirecting to penserclasser.fr:
