Site redirect to https
-
The site redirect documentation indicates that ‘Site redirects will only point to a non-ssl ( http:// ) url.’
Is there a work around for this? I need to point all pages on an existing wordpress.com site to a new URL.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hey!
I have a very similar question, so whoever answers can you also address these as well (sorry ryersonurbanfarm, don’t mean to hijack your post) in the same response:
Is the site redirect a 301?
Assuming the http will bump straight to https (handled by the new host), will the full url be redirected, AND is this redirect SEO friendly?Honestly, i don’t think the statement ‘Site redirects will only point to a non-ssl ( http:// ) url.’ is very helpful to some of us newbies, the consequences or downsides of this statement should be described better.
Thanks,

Hi there,
If you are trying to add the site redirect upgrade to redirect traffic to a completely different website, the URL of the site you’re directing to must be added as an http link, not an https link. If your SSL certificate on the other site is correctly set up it should already have an http to https redirect in place on that end.
The site redirect upgrade is a regular 301 redirect, yes.

Hi there,
Since the 301 redirect is a permanent redirect from one URL to another it should not affect your SEO.
That said, I suggest searching Google’s (and other search engines) support pages about how 301 redirects affect your sites SEO.
