Site reserved but not used!
-
Hello,
I have a self hosted WordPress blog (www.amindeed.com) and I want to create a backup/mirror blog on WordPress.com with the same name (amindeed.wordpress.com).
Though the new address does not exist (redirects to “en.wordpress.com/typo/?subdomain=amindeed”), I can not change my blog address to it. When I try to do it via the “Change Blog Address” menu I get this error message: “Sorry, that site is reserved!”.
Is there a way to change the blog address to “amindeed.wordpress.com”?
Thanks in advance.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

No. The account may reserved because it is being used for something other than hosting a blog: access as a user or reader of a private blog, access to Jetpack, or other reasons. WordPress won’t take the account away from the owner.
There are other ways to back-up your self-hosted site than mirroring it here on wp.com. Look into using VaultPress or other backup service.
I’m not even certain that a mirror site with duplicate content is in compliance with the Terms of Service:

Thanks for clarifying that, 1tess.
The blog to be started here isn’t necessarily a mirror/backup of the original in that meaning. It would rather contain posts with pingback urls.. kind of content cross-posting to reach more readers.
I don’t know if it is a way to go, so any advice on this would be much appreciated.

The best place top get advice for backing up a WordPress.org install is on their support forums. If you don’t have a username account at WordPress.org click http://wordpress.org/support/ and register one on the top right hand corner of the page that opens, so you can post to the support forums there and receive advice from WordPress.org bloggers.

Just a bunch of links back to your first blog would probably be classed as some sort of SEO scam and not in compliance with the Terms of Service
