Site statitics – confused

I looked at my hits today and was pleasantly content, then when I went into them over half were my entries – why is this? Surely my log in shouldn’t be included in my stats, should it?

    Thank you.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

If you are not logged into WordPress.COM and you visit your site while you are logged out, then yes your page views are counted. See here please https://en.support.wordpress.com/stats/

If you are sure your stats need to be investigated then you need to be specific and post details here so Staff know exactly which stats you are referring to when they get to this thread. You also need to type modlook into the sidebar tags on this thread to get Staff attention.

Note that you can post screenshots and share them with Staff. You can use http://snag.gy/ to share screenshots so Staff can examine them.

Below is some associated information you may find useful.

Our stats are not real time stats and take time to update. There are frequent fluctuations that most do not notice because we aren’t watching the process. For details see here http://en.support.wordpress.com/stats/ and note the views and viewers take hours to update.

Our stats are page view stats. But please do not assume that everyone who clicks a follow, like, share, reblog or comment link actually reads the post on your blog because odds are they may not.

Follow, like, share, reblog or comment clicks are not page views. In fact, follows, likes, shares, comments and reblogs are completely misleading when you are talking about page view stats.

Your followers and anyone with a WordPress.com/Gravatar account who is logged into WordPress.com can “follow” your blog, “like”, “share” and “reblog” your posts and “comment” in several locations such as the Reader, without ever clicking into your blog and creating a single page view stat. Subscribers control how frequently they receive your posts (instantly, daily, weekly) and can comment without clicking into the blog.

Logged in visitors using a mobile can read the full post without creating a page view stat. https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/wordpresscom-reader-show-full-text?replies=31#post-1373606

You can control the length of the entry sent out on your RSS feed here Dashboard > Settings > Reading. Choose the “summary” setting for your RSS feed rather than to “full text”. That will compel followers who are not using mobiles to click into the blog to read the full post which will create a page view stat.

There’s some kid of stats problem going around today. Not sure exactly what it is but several people are reporting weird problems.

We did have a stats hiccup yesterday, so if your stats are back to normal, that was probably it. If it’s still weird, let me know and I’ll look again.

    Thank you for the responses.

My blog is now a ‘.net.’ address instead of WordPress; would that make a difference?

Adding a custom domain doesn’t impact how your stats are recorded, so I don’t think that’s in play.

What do you mean by “over half were your entries?” How are you determining the stats were from your visits?

Also, please double check to make sure you are still seeing the irregularities. We were having issues yesterday, but they should be cleared up today.

Today no visits from my country but until yesterday all my entries I believe were registered, also the preceding days.

I took a look at your stats and I don’t see anything strange. If you could tell me more about why you believe all your visits were counted in your stats, I might be able to investigate further.

That having been said, if you aren’t experiencing the problem anymore, it’s unlikely we’ll be able to really figure anything out.
