Site Stats and "unknown_token" error

  • Unknown's avatar

I set up a development version using a full backup of my live site yesterday and when it was up and running I deactivated some plugins on the development site. Jetpack was one of the plugins I deactivated, though I did not disconnect it from WordPress.

Today I went to look at the site stats on my live site and all it will show is the following error:

“unknown_token: It looks like your Jetpack connection is broken. Try disconnecting from WordPress.com then reconnecting.”

I’d prefer not to lose my stats, so I’m hoping you can help me out with this before I try reconnecting and risk losing the stats. Or are they already gone?

    Thanks,
    John

    Hi John,

When I take a look at your site stats from our end, everything seems to be working properly and the URL shows up at http://www.blackhillswebworks.com. Was the development site for your blog located at a different URL? Can you let us know a few more details about this?

To clarify, the message you’re seeing, “unknown_token,” is this on your site stats page? Or when you try to connect to WordPress.com?

    Thanks for the quick reply!

The development site is in a subdomain of a different URL.

And yes, that error message only shows up on the Site Stats page. The general Jetpack page still shows that my site is connected to WordPress.com.

If I disconnect and reconnect like the message suggests will I lose those stats?

To further clarify (I think), the development site I mentioned is a clone of my live site, and originated from my live site.

  • You shouldn’t lose your stats after disconnecting if you’re maintaining the same URL.

Are you maintaining the same URL?

    Yep, same URL.

I disconnected and then reconnected and the stats are back. Thanks for the help!
