Site Stats not showing for November 17, 2013

I am not getting any site stats today even though I know people have visited my blog. It shows no visits and no views for today’s date.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Our stats are not real time stats and take hours to update. Do also know that your followers don’t have to click into your site and create a page view stat. As they can read full posts in several spots like the WordPress.com Reader, and can click like buttons and reblog buttons there and even comment there then there is no motivation for actually visiting the blog. Read more here http://en.support.wordpress.com/stats/

You can control the length of the entry sent out on your RSS feed here > Settings > Reading. Choose the “summary” setting for your RSS feed rather than to “full text”. That will compel followers who are not using mobiles to click into the blog to read the full post which will create a page view stat.

Visitors using a mobile can read the full post without creating a page view stat. https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/wordpresscom-reader-show-full-text?replies=31#post-1373606

Note that setting the RSS Feed to summary does not affect the length of the post displayed on the front page or main page for posts on the blog. To create excerpts there we can split content by inserting “the more tag” http://en.support.wordpress.com/splitting-content/more-tag/

Also note that you can disable “Sharing” on the same page:
    Settings > Reading
Add to each article in your feed:
    Categories
    Tags
    Comment count
    Sharing
Changes may not appear until you create a new post or your news reader refreshes.

Thanks. What does disable Sharing mean? Does changing the RSS feed affect what e-mail subscribers receive? Most of my readers are email followers, so I assume reading their emails of my posts does not count as a view either.
    Thanks again.

It means that no “sharing” icons appear in the email. You are correct ie. reading posts in emails does not create a page view stat, only actually clicking in to the blog and reading it there does. That is why one reason why I do not provide full posts in my RSS Feed. The second reason is that I do not want to make it easy for RSS Feed sucking blog scrapers to steal my content and waste my time tracking their web hosts down and filling DMCA take down notices to have it removed from their splogs.

OK, I just want to be sure I understand. If I change the RSS feed to Summary, does that mean that the email subscribers also get just the summary or do they get the full text? I understand that people reading through a feed will see just a summary, but what about email subscribers?

    Thanks for your patience!

The emails sent to subscribers are drawn from the RSS Feed. If summary is what you set then summary is what they get.

OK, great—I will give that a try and see what happens. Maybe no one will bother even clicking through and then I will have no one reading my posts!

I recommend subscribing to your own blog so you know exactly what yopur subscribers receive. I would not think that way at all. I find bloggers are far too self-deprecating. That’s not my style. Think positively and see how the change works for you. If it’s not for you then switch back.

I will do that now and see what it looks like. (I do subscribe already, being curious about what my subscribers receive.) Thank you SO much for your help and your patience. I am still a novice at this.

OK, that looks great. Thanks again, and good night!
