Site suspended with no warning or explanation
-
Hi there,
Earlier this evening, I wrote a post and published it on my personal blog (https://angryjedi.wordpress.com) and everything seemed to work fine — the post published correctly without errors. But when I clicked on the post title to view the post on the site itself, I was horrified to discover that my site has apparently been suspended.
Worse, I have not received any email notification or explanation as to *why* the site has been suspended. It has been up and running for 17+ years at this point and has never hosted anything offensive or illegal, so I am baffled (and extremely angry) that this has happened. (For context, tonight’s post, the 108th daily post in a row, was about Fitness Boxing on the Nintendo Switch, which, I’m sure most of you will agree, is not exactly suspension-worthy material.)
I have sent an email to WordPress via the suspension message on the Dashboard, but wanted to post this here in the forums if I am able also, in the hope that this can be resolved quickly.
I sincerely hope this is a system error or a misunderstanding, because I have been an enthusiastic user and promoter of WordPress products for nearly 20 years, but this incident (along with the recent pushing of AI) is severely souring me on the organisation as a whole.

Suspended sites are never discussed on this public forum. There is no way round but you just have to wait untill the TOS-team replies.
@tom29ddafc7c16e ther is nothing crazy. A site gets suspended when it violates are TOS.

@staartmees or, as in this case, when a site mistakenly falls foul of automated systems not doing their job correctly. As mentioned in my first post, my site does not host anything that violates the ToS, and this was an error on the part of Automattic’s automated systems.
Not really acceptable for a site to just be nuked (temporarily, thankfully, in this case) if “the AI” or whatever decides something isn’t right. There should be some human input involved when doing something as drastic as taking a 17-year old site down. Would have appreciated someone actually reaching out to me to warn/enquire first, as I did not even receive a email notification my site had been suspended — I only found out when I attempted to verify that a post I’d made had published correctly.
Regardless, the situation is resolved, though this whole incident has damaged my trust in WordPress.com quite considerably.

Every hosting provider can and won’t hesitate to suspend sites that are violating their TOS.

@staartmees You’re not listening. There was no TOS violation. It was a mistake with the automated systems, as evidenced by the fact that my site was immediately reinstated (without any modifications required to my site or its content) once the TOS team finally got around to replying to me. Not sure why this is so difficult for you to understand.
For my part, it’s deeply concerning that a site which, I reiterate once again in case you missed it, did not violate the TOS, can be taken completely down by a mistake with the automated systems. It just goes to show how fallible automated systems are, and how important human oversight is.
I hope Automattic learns from this, but I suspect they won’t. They’re all-in on AI nonsense, much to my disgust, so I suspect this will happen more to other people in the future as more and more automation is used.
I hope it doesn’t happen to you. Although perhaps if it did you might better understand how frustrating it is when your hard work of 17+ years is taken offline through no fault of your own — along with how annoyingly difficult it is to get help when that happens, and how it’s kind of infuriating when someone like you comes along making incorrect assumptions about the situation when they very obviously don’t know a thing about what is going on.
Anyway, this is resolved. Mods, please feel free to close this and mark it as solved. If there are even any human mods out there any more.
