site the source?
-
So, I was wondering, when it comes to source siting….is there a specific template that you all follow? Is a link sufficiant, or does it need more detail? Like maybe the author, date, publisher etc? Is blogging similar to say, book writing? I only ask, because posting a link can sometimes be nothing more then posting a ‘reblog’. Do we need to post the original (basically meaning, find the original content and source) or is siting a reblog sufficiant? I’m finding that a lot of internet sites are not original works.
Sorry about the ramble or if the question is mind boggling….it is to me too. The internet is a funny thing.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

So, here’s what *I* do just because I’ve had it drilled in to me that you ALWAYS need to cite your sources and site them correctly: I add as much information that I can find, because my opinion is that a link to the original is not good enough. I also finished my degree online, so we had a lot of electronic sources that we needed to site.
I’ve always used the APA format, so for me, no matter what type of document the source is, the very basic template is usually –
Last name, First name. (publish date of article or post) Title of document. Retrieved from [insert url here] on [the date that you linked.
When I was in college, The Owl at Purdue was my citing bible. Here’s a link to their page for reference lists for electronic sites: https://owl.english.purdue.edu/owl/resource/560/10/
And here’s the link for in-text citations: https://owl.english.purdue.edu/owl/resource/560/03/
Hope this helps! :)
