Site Tile and Tagline not updating and reverting back to old title and tagline. Every time I try to update my title to something different it reverts back to the old title. I’ve tried clearing my cache and that didn’t help. YoastSEO is not running either.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi there! Just to check, are you trying to make the change under Settings > General, or by going to Appearance > Customize > Site Identity?
If you’re having trouble making the change via your general settings, it’s worth doing so via the Customizer instead; but if you’re having trouble with both please do let us know so we can help check it over further.

Hm, ok. So at the moment I do see Yoast SEO (with Yoast SEO Premium) active on http://stoneageholdings.wpcomstaging.com/ but normally that shouldn’t have too much effect. Would you be able to let us know what you were trying to change the site title and tagline to? We’re happy to check it over, but let’s make sure we don’t end up testing changing it to a title and tagline you don’t want!

We downloaded the Yoast SEO plugin in hopes to help change the site title and tagline and that didn’t work either:(
Absolutely!
Site Title: StoneAge Holdings
Site Tagline: An Employee Owned Company
We are thinking it has to do with theme editor we installed? but we could be way off.

I can confirm I see the same issue here. It always switches back when I refresh the front page of the site.

That’s actually a pretty good hunch. Would you be willing to try deactivating that and see if the issue persists? If that’s the issue, it’d be worth checking with that plugin author to see if they’ve got an update or at least are aware of the issue.
We weren’t able to duplicate this on test sites, so if it’s not that plugin, I’d recommend checking all of them to pinpoint the issue. Just be sure to leave Jetpack activated — we know it’s not that since that’s on our test sites, too.
Plugins add extra features to your website that are not available by default in WordPress software. There are thousands of plugins developed mainly by other individuals and companies who have made their plugins available to all WordPress users. Occasionally, you may encounter a problem with your website related to a conflict with a plugin. Okay, I just want to confirm that if I deactivate then reactivate the Stax theme Plugin, that it won’t affect any of the Landing pages already created? Just want to make sure all of the work is saved. Thanks!

@stoneageholdings2023 I’m less familiar with the Stax plugin, but you’ll have Jetpack Backup if you need to restore anything. If it is that plugin, it’s possible that turning it off, changing the setting, then turning it back on again will fix the issue.
Typically I’d recommend the Health Check plugin for troubleshooting, as that won’t affect the live site, but since this issue seems to involve viewing the live site / refreshing / etc, I think it’s best to actually disable that plugin.

@jamekakaeldo thanks for your help here. The approved changes were listed further up in the thread. Only staff can help with this kind of edit, so you’ll want to be mindful of words like “we” and “us” that could imply anyone in the community can edit the site; that would be unsettling I’m sure!

Also @stoneageholdings2023, I do want to point out you’re welcome to open a chat if you need to restore a backup and need faster help. You can find that option here:

Yes I will most likely need assistance restoring a back up, just in case! I dont have time today but would love to get to this tomorrow using the chat if that’s okay!
-
Hey there,
That’s absolutely no problem – we can help with that via live chat as needed.
In the meantime, a restore can be found here: https://wordpress.com/backup/stoneageholdings.wpcomstaging.com?date=20230807 > all you would need to do is a pick a date and click > More actions > Restore to this point.
I hope this helps.

Hi so after I deactivate all plugins, do I then try and change the tagline and title? Or do deactivate and then reactivate and then try to switch the tagline and title?
Thanks!
-
Generally in cases like this there is one specific plugin that is causing the issue, so what we recommend is to turn them all on, then turn them off one at a time, trying to change your title/tagline between each deactivation.
By process of elimination, if you suddenly find that you can update those, it’s likely the case that the last plugin you deactivated is the culprit. Once you know which one is causing the issue, it’s possible to take a closer look at why.
Also we recommend our live chat option, since it can help if we troubleshoot this with you in realtime. Since chat is included in your Business Plan, you should see the option if you click the “contact support” button here: https://wordpress.com/help/
Hope that helps. Please let us know if you have any more questions.
