Site Timing Out

  • Unknown's avatar

Hi! So basically, my website on both the back end and front end (what customers see), times out after about 10-15mins. Then does not allow us back on…I have restarted the computers (several laptops and desktops), restarted the router, contacted my internet company, cleared out my cookies, and cleared my firewalls….. still does not let us stay on the site for more than 10-15mins a day. The only computer it allows to stay on is our main desktop at the storefront. However, when I went to 2 other homes to work on the site, it timed out. What do I do? I need to update products and I can’t unless I am physically at the store doing it. I am also worried, that customers are getting timed out as well. My site is http://www.nibblesbits.com Thank you!

    Hi there,

This is a strange one, I haven’t heard of that happening before. When you say timeout what do you see? I was able to visit the site and it did load correctly.

To give you some background, your site is using the self-hosted version of WordPress found at WordPress.org and hosted by webmobpgh.com. These forums are for the sites we host on WordPress.com.

You’ll find more on the difference between WordPress.com and self-hosted WordPress sites at:

    WordPress.com vs. WordPress.org

I would recommend contacting your host to see if they blocked your stores IP address or are having problems with their servers.

Another thing you may want to try is installing our Jetpack plugin which provides many features for your self-hosted WordPress site including Downtime Monitoring which can help you narrow the problem to either your host or locally.

Working on the back end (entering products), after about 10-15mins the connection times out. I get a screen with an animal with a broken cord and the message stating:

    The connection has timed out

The server at http://www.nibblesbits.com is taking too long to respond.

The site could be temporarily unavailable or too busy. Try again in a few moments.
If you are unable to load any pages, check your computer’s network connection.
If your computer or network is protected by a firewall or proxy, make sure that Firefox is permitted to access the Web.

I restarted my computer, restarted my router (this fixes it for maybe about 5 mins, then times out), cleared my cookies, disabled my firewalls, even went to different peoples houses to use their internet connection. As I am typing this to you, the site timed out, but I am still able to go on other sites and be online.

    Hi there,

Thanks for the additional details. That does sound like a problem on your hosting end. Since we are not the host of your site you will need to contact them to see if they are able to help out. The connection is timing out on the servers end not locally which is why restarting your computer is having no effect.

See if https://webmobpgh.com can help you (since they are your host). I would also still recommend installing Jetpack for the Downtime Monitoring feature.

Sorry, we couldn’t be more help here, however since you are not currently using our hosting platform but have installed the WordPress software yourself we are limited in the support we are able to provide.

Good luck and let us know if we can be of any additional help.
