Site title flashshing after font change
-
Has anyone had this problem before I am using the Baskerville template and have changed the site title font, however it’s now flashing showing the default font first before loading the new font when the website is loading esp on a slower connection.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi,
I did notice the effect you describe the first time I visited your site. Perhaps staff can provide an explanation to you and suggest a remedy. I’ll call for staff attention.

On slower connections, we display text in the theme’s default font first. This way, people can start reading your content before the custom font loads, instead of waiting while looking at a blank page. This might mean that there’s a flash of a different font before the page finishes loading, but we think overall this is better for folks on slower connections than seeing a blank screen.
The CSS snippet above will display a blank screen instead.
.wf-loading body { visibility: hidden; } -

My pleasure. I’ll mark this thread as resolved but feel free to start a new one if you need help with anything else.

Hi kathrynwp, I know it was a while ago but we still have a flashing font title, I have copied and pasted the CSS code into the editor, but its still flashing with a slow connection or mobile phone with data connection.
Regards Jay

visibility: hidden; }

Hi there – I checked your site on both my phone and desktop and it appears as expected – the page is blank first, and then the text in your custom font appears, with no “flash of unstyled text.” I’m not sure what you’re seeing, but perhaps it’s not related to custom fonts? Is it at all possible to capture a screenshot of what you’re seeing, or better yet, a screencast? Seeing what you are might give me some ideas. Beyond that piece of custom CSS, there isn’t any other technique for preventing the “flash of unstyled text” that I know of.

Hm. Just wrote a reply that seems to have been lost.
Happens also for theme Twentyseventeen, much less in Firefox on Mac and Windows than in Chrome (Mac) and IE (Windows)
– so it’s not only related to the speed of the connection.Click around on the menu of https://ubblogtest.wordpress.com

@overlandtours: when I click on the links in your menu, each click opens a new tab – I would rather expect the pages to load in the same tab.
-
Btw. also happens on Firefox on iPhone. But like on desktop: Ff seems to cache the values, so it (at least) only happens the first time I click on each part of the menu.

@kathryn Sorry, just saw that this is only for themes without custom css.
I moved it here https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/twentyseventeen-title-font, you are very welcome to delete my posts here to avoid confusion.

manuschwendener – the only workaround I’m aware of for any “flash of unstyled text” before your custom font loads is adding the CSS snippet mentioned earlier at the top of your custom CSS:
.wf-loading body { visibility: hidden; }Thanks for starting a new thread – if you have further questions, please continue there.
