Site title link doesn't work on Canard theme when page is viewed on mobile

    Hello,

I’m testing out a few themes and really like the Canard theme. However, I’ve noticed that when any page on the site is viewed in mobile or tablet size, the Site Title (in my case, the Blackbird4739 at the top of the page) is no longer a link back to the homepage. In fact, the text doesn’t appear to be selectable at all. This happens when I use any browser on my Android phone (Chrome, Firefox, Brave, Dolphin). It also happens on my Windows 10 desktop computer when I resize any browser window down to mobile size (Firefox, Chrome, Edge, IE11).

When viewed in full size on a desktop, or when viewed on a mobile phone with Request Desktop Site enabled in the browser, the Site Title functions as a link back to the homepage.

The behaviors I describe happen whether or not there is a menu in the Primary Location in the theme, and it also happens when the Site Title is hidden and a Site Logo is displayed instead.

The site I’m experiencing this with is https://blackbird4739.wordpress.com/

I’m not sure if this behavior is intentional, but it doesn’t seem like it would be intentional, so I’m wondering if there’s something that I’m doing wrong and can’t figure out, or if there’s possibly an issue with the theme.

    Thanks for your help!

    Hi Jeffrey,

I was able to replicate the issue you describe on a PC by reducing the browser window size. I would think that the failure of the site title to function as a link only on small screens, and on small browser windows on larger screens, is probably a bug. I’ll tag the topic for staff attention.

  • Thanks @musicdoc1. I’ve confirmed this as well and I think I see the issue. I’ll file a bug report.

Thank you both for your help!

I’m also having the same problem with the Canard title link. Does anyone know of a way to add a Home button elsewhere (sidebar for instance) until the bug is fixed? I’d like to have mobile functionality for my blog.

    @readsalot2311,

Which site are you referring to? You may add a “Home” menu item, by selecting “Home” from the Pages option at the Add items page (if “Home” is a static page assigned as the front page), or as a custom link, to the primary menu on the Canard theme, as described in the Add menu items section of the Custom Menus support page.

You may also add a link to the “Home” page to various widgets, including a Text Widget. See the Text Widgets and Text Widget Links support pages.

  • @readsalot2311 the bug isn’t fixed yet. I’ll add a note saying you’re experiencing it too.

  • Hi Jeffrey and @readsalot2311,

Thanks for reporting this issue! It should now be fixed in the Canard theme.

    Cheers!

Yep, I can confirm that the site title on my site now functions as a link when in mobile and tablet size. Thank you for fixing it!

Actually, I think there might be another issue now. The theme works fine when just a site title is used. However, when the site title is hidden and a site logo is used instead, the link area covers the search button and the menu button. The site logo picture itself doesn’t cover the search and menu buttons, you can still see them just fine. But when trying to click on the search and menu, it seems that the home page link covers the search and menu buttons.

This is all when the site is viewed on mobile and tablet. Though, it appears that if the site is viewed wide enough, such as when using the tablet site preview option, then the home page link area doesn’t expand wide enough to completely cover the search and menu buttons. The inside halves of the buttons are still covered by the home page link area, but the outside halves can be clicked on successfully to drop down search and the menu.

  • Hi blackbird4739,

Thanks for the report. I’ve notified the developers of this as well.

  • Thanks blackbird4739!

It looks like my original fix did not work well with wider logos. I’ve made another adjustment and double-checked your site on mobile – it should be possible to click those links again on all screen sizes.

Just let us know if you spot anything else, or if you have any questions at all — thank you!
