  I built a primitive page on godaddy and am considering moving it to wordpress – do I have to reinvent the wheel or can I transfer the design, etc along with the domain name

  Hi there,

  Only site content can be transferred between different platforms, not the design, as the software wouldn’t be compatible. And if your site is hard-coded rather using a CMS like WordPress, the only way to migrate your content is by manually copy-pasting everything, as there is no way to generate a compatible content export file from a hard-coded site.
