Site transfer question
-
I want to transfer a site that I’ve created in my own WordPress account to a friend. But I have to create a WordPress account for her before I do that. I’m wondering if I can just set the account up using nothing but her name and email address and bypass certain introductory questions which force you to start the creation of a new site in order to open the account. I’m hoping to just get her basic information into the account and then do the transfer. Is that possible? Or do I absolutely have to set up a new site to open the account and then do the transfer? See my predicament? Thanks in advance. -Demian

Hi there,
You can create an account for her without setting up a new site. Make sure you log out from your account and start a new account creation. You should see an option for that.
Let me know if this works.

Hey, Moodyblerd. I can’t seem to get around this. I go to what I think is the wordpress.com homepage “get started” link (and don’t see any other way to start) and am still asked what I want for templates, domain names, etc. Obviously I’d like to skip all of this as I have a site all ready to go…

…Oh, there’s a mistake there. The site I need help with is not dwarendblog.wordpress.com. It’s catbirdfarmgeorgetown.wordpress.com

Hi there,
Log out and try creating an account with this link: https://signup.wordpress.com/signup/?user=1
Let me know if this works.

Hi there,
Please DO NOT create a WordPress.com account for someone else. Ask your friend to create their own account via this link:
https://wordpress.com/start/account/user/
Once they’ve done that, have them send you their username, and you can use that to transfer the site.
Where did you find the signup.wordpress.com link? That is very likely a very old link, as we don’t currently use any subdomains for account signups.
