Site upgrades???, disk usage and what constitutes a successful site
-
Hi,
I would like to buy the ad free and I think the premium design upgrade. I might also need more disk space but I have no idea how much I’m using as I’m not sure where you look for that. Can you explain the premium design. Is that where someone who’s a specialist in this kind of thing designs your site. That would be nice.
I see in my shopping cart a deal but it is on stuff I don’t need and don’t want. I’m just trying to get the site in a better position.
I’m also just curious what would constitute a site average hits vs a site that does very well. I guess I keep getting these SEO guys throwing stuff at me about a successful site but I think I’m exceeding their numbers. I really don’t know.
Thanks
Kerry

Hi Kerry,
You can buy the No Ads and Custom Design upgrades by going to the Store page in your dashboard. If you don’t want the WordPress.com Premium deal shown at the top of the page, you can scroll down to purchase the individual upgrades.
I might also need more disk space but I have no idea how much I’m using as I’m not sure where you look for that.
You can find out how much space you’re using by going to Media > Library in your dashboard. At the top of the page, it will tell you how much space your using. You’re only using 1% of the 3GB you get for free, so I think you’re ok for now. :)
Can you explain the premium design. Is that where someone who’s a specialist in this kind of thing designs your site. That would be nice.
The custom design upgrades includes three features that you can learn more about at these links:
The upgrade doesn’t include having a specialist design your site. It gives you the control to make the changes you’d like yourself. If you have questions about using custom CSS, staff and volunteers offer some CSS support in our community forums:

We don’t have information about average stats for blogs, but we do have some stats for WordPress.com as a whole if you’re interested: http://en.wordpress.com/stats/
WordPress.com handles search engine optimization for you, so you don’t need to worry about that. If you’re curious, we have a couple articles about SEO at these links:

Hi,
I want to thank you for all the information you’ve provided me. It is very helpful.
Yes, I would agree I have tons of disk space and should be fine for quite a while.
Tweaky might be a good source to go to if I want to fully revamp the design. I did adjust my site this morning and just modified a few things but it made it a lot nicer.
In terms of getting more views, I’m doing a Stumbleupon campaign currently which has been generating the daily views i authorized. I am also doing a press release this week and although my charge card went through I haven’t heard from them so maybe it’s a no go but that would strike me as odd.
I’ve read the info pack on improving performance on the site and there’s only so much I can ask of my friends. They’ve been great.
My view is I put a lot of work into every article I write. I would like people to at least glance at it. That’s why the campaigns just to broaden the exposure. I makes sure I contact all companies I reference and they have been very good in that they’re all appreciative. Some though will do a cross link and that helps immeasurably and some just say thanks while others retweet the item.
I love writing and am trying to do this right. Blogging though is new territory for me so I’m feeling my way around.
Thanks again for your great help.
I really do appreciate it.
Kerry
