site verification
-
Any help appreciated ! I followed the instructions on WP and tried to verify site via google but received a message on google after clicky verify to say: We weren’t able to verify your site.
Google page highlighted the text to copy – I pasted it in on WP tools as per the tutorial so not sure what the problem is.
I have pasted below the info I copied and I clicked Save Changes.<meta name=”google-site-verification” content=”jdTcNCyMtLmFWodn-0hrSuprfkdm03eUOWE_7Y4FBYU” />
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

The only process that we can use for verifying free hosted WordPress.com blogs with search engines is found here > http://en.support.wordpress.com/webmaster-tools/ Will you please try using it again?
Note: Even if you do not verify the blog the content will be indexed by search engines so don’t feel panicky about this please.

Hi Susan,
Can you verify what URL you are using with Google? We know that one common misconception is that you should type in http://www.yourblogname.wordpress.com – but the “www” part is not needed.
Cheers!

Review step 6 in the link timethief gave you
Copy the content value of the meta tag. The content value is the bold text in this example:
<meta name=’google-site-verification’ content=’dBw5CvburAxi537Rp9qi5uG2174Vb6JwH> -
Hi Auxclass – there is no way for you to know this, but when I checked Susan’s settings she did have the correct part of the code inserted. Thank you for double-checking, though! You are right – that is also a very common error!
Cheers :)

The language implied the whole thing which is a common error – and I can’t see her Dashboard – thanks for double checking

Hi all
Many thanks for the info/ help. I will try it again and will make sure I am not using the www – although I remember reading that it should be left out so hopefully I didnt include it!
Your help is most appreciated – thanks for taking the time.

Susan,
Thanks so much for checking on that! We have had some experiences where users can NOT ultimately get site verification despite doing everything correctly – it doesn’t affect whether Google properly indexes your site, but let’s cross that bridge when we come to it.
