Site very slow
-
Hi there,
Our site seems to be running very slow, pages taking a long time ot load, etc. Do you have any suggestions as to what might be causing this? Are there simply too many pictures, or is something else going on? (It’s currently running the Stay theme.)
Any advice much appreciated!

For a page speed test see here https://tools.pingdom.com/#!/eNZQgc/http://glasgowmusiccitytours.com/
Your site loads faster than 10 % of tested sites.
How quickly any site loads is dependent upon what the blogger has done on the site and on which device they are using to access the site.
These are the ways to reduce page loading time:
1. Edit posts and insert “the more tag” so only excerpts appear on the front page. http://en.support.wordpress.com/splitting-content/more-tag/2. Reduce the number of posts appearing on the front page here > Settings > Reading
Blog pages show at most _ posts3. Reduce the number of images and or media embeds displayed and/or make them smaller.
4. Reduce the number of widgets in the sidebar and footer areas.
5. Optimize your images prior to uploading them and presize them to exactly fit where you want them to display before you upload them. This can help reduce download time. It will also result in better image quality and you will not be wasting your free image space allocation. See this support document on image optimization: https://en.support.wordpress.com/media/image-optimization/

Hi glasgowmusicrobot,
I just wanted to let you know I’m speaking to our developers about the loading time. I’ll come back to you when I have more information.

Hi glasgowmusicrobot,
I have an update for you. The slow page load is due to an external request to Eventbrite for the ‘Book Your Tour’ widget.
When the page loads, we request the data from Eventbrite. The delay is due to the length of time it takes for the data to be sent from Eventbrite to us.
You’ll notice that the Contact page loads faster because it doesn’t include that widget:
While we can’t speed up the amount of time it takes to receive the data, I can tell you that this is the reason for slow page loads.

Ah-ha. That is very interesting, and, yes, I see what you mean about the ‘contact’ page. Thank you very much, you’ve solved a mystery. I’ll see what I can do with it.
