site visibility – blocked on wordpress.com setting

  • Unknown's avatar

My site is currently showing as noindex despite me having set it to INDEX within my reading settings. I have a wordpress.org site and the reading settings in my wpadmin area have the ‘Discourage search engines from..’ box UNCHECKED. However, when I manage the site via wordpress.com, it is set to CHECKED no matter how many times I uncheck it and hit save.

My site has fallen out of the google results entirely, so I need to get this resolved asap. Any help would be appreciated. Thx!

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

    Hi, there.

Try this. Log out of your WordPress.com account. Log back in, then change the setting and save.

Post back here if that doesn’t work.

Hi – nope, didn’t work. I logged out, logged back in, checked the box to switch to allow search engine indexing, hit save, it says saving, but then it immediately reverts back again to blocked. Any other ideas?

If it were me, I’d either try it in another browser, or log out again, clear cookies and then give it another try.

I’m not seeing this as a known issue anywhere, but will keep looking.

Where are you trying to change the setting?

    Here:

    https://wordpress.com/settings/general/www.opusenergy.com

    or here?

    http://www.opusenergy.com/wp-admin/options-reading.php

Also, into on what browser you’re using may be helpful.

I think I figured out part of the problem, but I don’t know how to fix it :(

I had set up a mirrored version of my site at testing.opusenergy.com when we did a recent theme swap. Because it was initially set up as an exact mirror, it connected up to jetpack with the original main domain settings. I disconnected it from jetpack (as I was getting notifications on the main website that jetpack was confused about which one was the main site). It is not connected now, but as a test, I tried reconnecting it and I get the same error. I have 6 wordpress sites and I don’t have the error with any of them – only with opusenergy.com and testing.opusenergy.com.
I’ve tried disconnecting both sites and reconnecting only the main domain, but no luck. I just keep having the same issue. Could wordpress.com/jetpack still be confused on which version is the right “master” site?

Just saw your other question – I am in Chrome. When I look at opusenergy.com/wpadmin – it shows as UNCHECKED. When I open it in wordpress.com/settings/general/etc – it shows as CHECKED. I tested all of my other wordpress sites which I also manage via the same login and cannot duplicate the error, so I don’t think it is a browser issue.

I also tried CHECKING the box in /wpadmin to see if I could override the wordpress.com setting but no luck.

So it’s the setting at https://wordpress.com/settings/general/www.opusenergy.com that won’t correctly save, correct?

Have you disconnected Jetpack from the main site and then reconnected it? Or just disconnected the mirror?

Sorry, i missed in your comment earlier that you’ve already done that.
