Site visitors are viewing pics no longer on my site?

Hello, this may be a dumb question, but I see on my stats page that viewers of my site have be able to look at pictures that are no longer on my site. These pics still reside in my media library, but are no longer posted to my site. How is this possible?

    Thanks!

If the images were indexed by a search engine, then folks could still find them. The links to files in your media library will still function, whether they are in a post or not.

I was thinking too, but what about those who come to my site through the home page or one of my other pages that didn’t come in via google image search result?

Also, I’ve noticed that if I click on one of the pictures in question on my stats page, it gives me different view that allows me to scroll through pics in my media gallery. I guess what I’m asking is how one could get to that option if none of the pics posted to my site displays in this fashion?

    Thanks for your help.

How do you know that visitors came to your home page and then went to an image in your media library?

It could be that some social media links were shared with direct links to your images. FaceBook, Pinterest, other blogs, etc.

Does this bother you? Then if the images are no longer on your blog, why not delete them so they would return 404 not found errors and anyone linking to those images would not show valid links.

But it’s odd that you didn’t see pings or trackbacks with those links. Well, maybe not so odd…

Thanks for the response 1tess. It doesn’t bother me so much. I just wondered how this was possible. But you’re right, I could always delete those old pics.

    Thanks again….have a good one.
