site won't load

For the last few weeks, the WordPress site is disastrously slow loading. I have to click and reclick and check again and wait for it to load and then hit enter in the address bar over and over and then hold my breath hoping “publish” will go through properly. I asked around on twitter and it isn’t just me. What is going on? How long until it’s fixed? Those of us who need WordPress for work are extremely frustrated.

Hi Katie – Hmm, your site loads quickly for me, but it’s possible there is some sort of connection problem or slowdown between your location and one of our facilities. Could you load the following URLs and tell me if any of them are slow?

http://sat.wordpress.com/Also, it is possible that there are 1 or 2 things on the page which are loading slowly and thus causing the entire page to appear slow. The Web Inspector in Safari and the Firebug plug-in for Firefox will show you how long each thing takes to load on the page. Would you mind installing those and telling us what the slowest things are?
Additionally, can you tell me if there are other blogs that are slow for you on WordPress.com? For example, do these load slowly, or only your own blog? http://wordpress.com/fresh/

Wow. No. This is while I’m working. This isn’t about the public site. I need to be able to see my stats page, change appearances and widgets, compose, publish, update. You know, host a blog. Anything on my logged in version of WP is a nightmare. And it isn’t just me. What is going on?

What’s your geographical location (city/state) and who is your Internet Service Provider?
Do you notice that the problem is worse at certain times of day, such as evenings?
Do you typically blog from a work or school network, or from your own computer at home?
Finally, does it make any difference if you try blogging in Chrome or Firefox, or do you have just as much trouble as you do in Safari?
This information will help us narrow down what’s going on, so we can help figure out what’s causing your problem.

It happens no matter where I’m working. My computer, another computer, my home connection through TimeWarner, my hotspot through AT&T, work, anywhere. Chrome is as much of a problem as Safari. Also, the other people I’ve heard from on Twitter experiencing similar problems are in different parts of the country. It isn’t my connection; it isn’t my internet; it isn’t my computer. The problem is at the WordPress site. It happens on my phone, my tablet, etc.

Hi Katie – I understand this is really frustrating, but we are not receiving any reports of a general slowdown on our end affecting all of our users. It’s possible the people you heard from on Twitter have self-hosted WordPress sites, not sites hosted here at WordPress.com.
In order to help you troubleshoot, I have to narrow down what of many possible issues could be causing this problem for you, so as many specific details as you can provide about this problem on your end, the better I can help you.
What is your geographical location?
Can you let me know if loading any of these three links is slow for you? It is possible there is some sort of connection problem or slowdown between your location and one of our facilities, and this would help me pinpoint that:
