Site won't verify on Google

  I have entered the meta name as directed and I can see the meta name in the source code; however when I check if it’s verified on Google, Google says it isn’t. I am sure I am missing something basic but would appreciate your help.

  The only Google site verification method that works for wordpress.com hosted blogs is here https://en.support.wordpress.com/webmaster-tools/#google-search-console

  Note: Even if you do not verify the blog the content will be indexed by search engines so don’t feel panicky about this please.

  What attracts search engines is unique content in posts (not pages) that cannot be found anywhere else on the internet.   Thank you for your reply, I have followed the steps a number of times and it still is not working. It was a quick and easy job to verify the full site (not a WordPress site) so I am clearly doing something wrong – can I not just write the code manually? I prefer to have sites verified by Google.
