Hi,
I know I don’t have to add a sitemap in google search console but still I have verified my wordpress blog with Google Webmaster but when I submit a sitemap. it says, “Couldn’t fetch” please see the screenshot and help me fix this: https://prnt.sc/op2shm
I submit the sitemap by adding “sitemap.xml” to the field. URLs of my blog are indexing on google.

Your sitemap does appear to be working properly: https://funwithlilly.home.blog/sitemap.xml
I recommend trying one more time with Google.

Thank you for responding. Yes, the sitemap URL does work properly but when I submit it to the Search Console, it doesn’t fetch the sitemap.xml. I have tried multiple times but it just doesn’t fetch. I don’t know what I am doing wrong.

Hi,

Hi @lillydavid311, I really don’t think you’re doing anything wrong. I confirmed the sitemap is working here. I even used a few outside sitemap validator sites to confirm outside sites can access it, and they all work as well.
And, I assume the rest of Search Console is also working, right? So I searched for “google sitemap couldn’t fetch” and found some threads from Google’s community support suggesting it just takes a while (maybe a week, according to this thread).
If it still doesn’t work after that, you might try checking in with their support. But the fact that your site is indexing in the meantime is good news!
