Sitemaps for Webmaster Tools

Shortly after getting a custom domain here, I signed up for Google’s Webmaster Tools. I am not sure I understand it all, but some of the info is interesting.

Some of the keywords they have gathered from my site are those that do not relate to the content within the blog, such as email, search, and cancel. For those of you with WordPress.com blogs, do you feel submitting sitemaps improve the searchable keywords? Does this in any way improve the amount of people who come by your site through searches?

I appreciate any advice you have.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

    Hello,
WordPress.com provides sitemaps to the major search ebgines automatically – we bloggers do nothing. http://en.support.wordpress.com/sitemaps/#xml-sitemaps-for-search-engines

Ah, thank you. This is good to know. I was thinking I’d have to learn how to do that. I would rather the keywords I listed above not be included, but I am guessing since they are part of the page, they will have to be indexed as well.

    From the support page:

Your blog is enabled with just about everything you need to be super-searchable. This includes an XML sitemap, which you can access at yourblogname.wordpress.com/sitemap.xml.

Out of curiosity I wanted to see what my sitemap looked like. I copied the link, put in my blog name and it came up with page not found. ( I removed the period at the end.) I used the blog name from before I purchased the custom domain and it redirected.

Oops. I made a mistake and somehow got the bottom paragraph quoted. It wasn’t meant to be. Sorry about that.
