sites and threads I'm following
-
I’m not getting notifications for discussions/blogs I’m following. I tried to log in and manage them, but it wouldn’t take my password. So I reset the password and now it claims I’m not following ANYTHING.
What the heck is going on?

Hi there,
Is mithrandale the username of the account with all the sites you follow? There are no sites you own or follow under that account.
If it is not, I would be more than happy to assist you in regaining access to your actual account. If you could please fill out our account recovery form, we’ll definitely get in touch with you as soon as possible.
Please visit our support page for more information on recovering your account.
Thanks!

Okay, this time when I clicked the cery same link for managing my subscriptions, instead of telling me it had none and making me get a new password, it took me to the actual management page. But where it used to show immediate notification for the blogs I follow, it doesn’t show ANY except for one. I didn’t change that, and I can’t figure out how to fix it.
The site is NOT intuitive.

Yes, it’s mithrandale, and according to emails from wordpress back farher than a year ago, that’s what it has been all along.
-
I keep trying to use the site to manage my subscriptions, but there aren’t any instructions, and nothing I click on does anything. I keep thinking that if I had turned in an assignment in computer science class in college that had this poor a user interface, it would have been sent back with a big F on it.

Hi there,

Hmm.. While logged in, did you go to WordPress.com and click the Manage button next to Followed Sites? That is all you need to do in order to manage your subscriptions. In terms of managing subscriptions anyway, the interface is set up pretty straightforward. Let me know if that is what you are seeing.
Thanks,

When I got to WordPress.com there’s no option for logging in. When I click “manage” it tells me I’m not following any sites.
But when I use the ‘back door’ that was emailed to me, I see my sites listed but nothing I do changes anything — they’re just listed, one shown as immediate notification and the others showing nothing at all.
-
Oh — the email gave me this link:
https://subscribe.wordpress.com/?key=1315990b4e648ecf3d09b1ec8cd1100a&email=mithrandale%40gmail.com
And when there, if I click on “comments”, it shows that there hasn’t been any activity for weeks, which is not the case.
-
That is what I am seeing as well – no activity.
What are some names of sites that you are following?
Also, when you say back door what are you referring to? The dashboard?
Let me know, thanks!
-
No activity shows — except I follow on average three new conversations on The Truth About Guns each week, and about that per month on Anything Pawsable. I click on those conversations indicating I want notification of new posts and comments, and I’ve been getting nothing.
I don’t know what a “dashboard” is, except in my vehicle. I just use the link that used to come every time I make a new follow request, and which you guys emailed me a while back; that’s what I called the “back door”. It at least shows that I’m following some sites, but it still isn’t accurate about my activity.

Hi there,
I found both of the sites that you are say you are following and neither of them are WordPress.com sites. They are both self-hosted WordPress.org sites that are not connected via JetPack, so you will not receive notifications from those particular sites.
You can add these sites to your Reader by clicking the manage button and adding their URLs into the follow blog field. You can select to receive email notification for new posts and comments.
Let me know if you have any questions. Thanks!

Up until recently I was following those sites and when I followed a thread it showed up on the WordPress management page. Why did it stop? Were they WordPress pages but changed their status?
I don’t know what a “Reader” is. I read on the sites, and I click on the “notify” buttons, and it used to work and doesn’t now. It has always been through WordPress, but it isn’t working now.
This is what you guys emailed me:
It used to work. Now it doesn’t do anything. It used to show all the new discussions I wanted notification for. Now it doesn’t do that. All I want to know is why it stopped working and what to do to fix it.
-
So, there is a sync error associated with JetPack version 4.3 that most likely affected notifications. But, I checked and neither owner is connected to JetPack.
This error should be corrected in the next update which should be coming out in the next few days. However, if both owners had their sites connected to JetPack in the past, neither of them are now – so I’m not sure which issue is behind you no longer receiving notifications, but chances are it’s one of these two issues.
However, I will be sure to keep you updated once I hear the that there is a fix to the JetPack 4.3 sync issue. All self-hosted sites that update their JetPack plugins should receive the fix.
Thanks!

I asked the site owners at The Truth About Guns whether thy knew if this was affecting others, but haven’t had an answer. If it’s the update that’s the issue it should affect everyone, right?
-
Yay!
The morning after I sent them the e-mail, TTAG notifications are working again. Maybe the fact that I hinted the problem might be affecting all their readers had an effect?

I wouldn’t be surprised! Good work!

I bet there’s a blip in their site visits chart!
Definitely! Hopefully that will all be fixed with the new updates!
