Sites appearance customisation
-
Hello,
I wanted to write to understand what I could do on a free word press account and its limitation for what our blog would like to do.
First off For our blog we were hoping to setup up an in-depth archive that would appear only on one of the subpages that would be titled “archive”. This archive I was hoping to setup would then be able to be organised through tags, dates written, genre, etc. As of now it seem that we are not able to do this. Would I be able to code this on a free version or would we have to pay for an upgrade on our account?
As well, we wanted to have a rolling new bulletin that would fall under another sub menu and would work in a traditional news feed format. I could not see any option for this so again would we have to pay for a feature as this, could it be coded for free?
If anyone could get back to us on these issue that would be most appreciated.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

A free site on WordPress.com will allow you to have/create archives, to contain posts based on category, tag, date, etc. For example, if you have a number of posts with category “movies”, then the archive of all posts with that category can be found at http://curatingthecontemporary.wordpress.com/category/movies
However, since your posts aren’t categorized (they’re all under the category “Uncategorized”), that archive can be found here: http://curatingthecontemporary.wordpress.com/category/uncategorized/An archive of all posts from 2014 would be here: http://curatingthecontemporary.wordpress.com/2014/ , and an archive of all posts from March 2014 here: http://curatingthecontemporary.wordpress.com/2014/03/
Those are just some examples that show that you can show archives based on category, date (month or year), and so it’s also possible to show categories based on tags.
I’m not really clear on your second question. You mean you want another “blog” within the WordPress site?

Thank you for your response. Yes, we haven’t categorised any of the article yet… Am I correct to assume that what you suggested is based on an archive that is not from wordpress’s widgets?
The second question, to put it simply, is that we would like a newsfeed, or several RSS feeds, but not from the widget section (that would appear on every page). So it would be a dedicated page that you could select from the sites menu and would display just news updates. Does WordPress offer a capability of this type?
