Sitewide edits

Some of my older site’s local picture links (on your servers) point to outdated http headers in various posts. Is there a way I can change them all into https in one fell swoop, please?

Thanks, katiebethbrown!
I’ve been editing out broken links (across 200 posts) and noticed that broken padlock warning in the address bar.
This is an example post:
In html edit mode,
I have picture links like this:

…and hotlinks like this:
<span style=”color:blue;”>Parkersteel – Carbon Steels Square Hollow Section</span>To be fair, it’s only an issue in admin mode, but do I like to keep my code clean and tidy.

Apologies, should have put those in code tags

Thanks for the update. To make sure I’m understanding what you’re asking, I want to clarify. Here’s what I’m seeing:
- You have older images and links that were originally created with HTTP headers rather than HTTPS – like the image and link above.
- On your published site, WordPress.com is automatically serving HTTPS images/links, but in the editor, you are still seeing the broken padlock in your browser because the editor is showing the original HTTP version of the images/links.
- You would like to be able to bulk update these links so they are all using the HTTPS versions so you will then see the secure lock while editing.
Am I correctly understanding your issue? If so, I’m not sure that there is a way to bulk edit the images/links to update them from HTTP to HTTPS from the editor side. Do know that, like you said,
it’s only an issue in admin mode
, and from a security standpoint, visitors to your site are getting served the HTTPS versions (and the site is secure).
I’m going to go ahead and add a modlook tag to the sidebar, so that a staff member can take a look at your question and let us know if the best method to update the links and images is to do so manually or if there is a process that can accomplish this more simply for you.

Hi @knoba, can you confirm this?
You have older images and links that were originally created with HTTP headers rather than HTTPS – like the image and link above.
On your published site, WordPress.com is automatically serving HTTPS images/links, but in the editor, you are still seeing the broken padlock in your browser because the editor is showing the original HTTP version of the images/links.I believe we’d need to get a developer to do a find and replace for you, so please confirm first.
The other option would be to export your posts, edit the file, and re-import them, but you would need to delete your posts before it would work.

Thanks for your time & help!
I enjoy doing my blog immensely. And, the support is superb.
katiebethbrown, you are spot-on. That’s what I’m trying to do.
supernovia, a “find & replace” feature is exactly what I’m after.
This isn’t the first time I’ve needed this function, on my wordpress blog, and it won’t be the last. I just wondered if there was a user tool for it.
It’s taken me 3 hours to go through 2/3rds of the site and I’m almost there. I’m happy to carry on. I can check for dead links too while I’m there.
Many thanks, I’m good!

We don’t have a find and replace tool at this time, not even for support staff. But I will note this case in requesting such tool for future use!
