Sizing an Image
-
Is there anyway to size an image in WP.com? It seems to be either thumbnail or it’s as is” I downloaded an image from google then uploaded the image to a post. The image was right at the margins of the post. Links (i.e Recents)on the sidebar bled into the image.
I looked in the forum and did find anything about it. I saw a reference to DrMikes guide to uploading images but there was no url. I also looked at FAQ material.
Thanks

The way I prepare my images prior to uploading is to resizing them in advance by using microsoft paint (keeping in mind the blogging post space) http://faq.wordpress.com/2006/09/25/how-big-can-my-images-be/
It should be noted that the Cutline theme has it’s own instructions for image treatment which can be found in FAQs blog. However, as you have linked both your username and your blog url with no follow tags I do not know which theme you are using. Hence, I’m assuming your blog has mature contents and is “not safe for work” viewing and has been declared as such to sysadmin. In addition to that the Pressrow theme has a “jump to comments” tha renders image insertion at the beginning of a post to be a frustrating enterprise. As far as how specific themes are coded to either scrunch, cut off or allow large images to overflow blogging frames here’s a link to reviews that tell you what to expect from each theme http://engtech.wordpress.com/tools/wordpress/wordpress-theme-reviews/ -
TimeThief,
Thanks for the info.
The next time I have a question, I’ll change the privacy radio button and post the URL. This blog has very “immature content”:). I use to experiment with WP.com functionality that I am trying to learn. There is no real rhyme or reason to the posts. Thanks again.

When answering another question I came up with some more ways and means to re-size images. Here are some tools you can use:
Performancing extension for firefox
http://performancing.com/firefox
or the WordPress Gadget
http://wordpress.com/gadgets/
I believe Blogdesk http://www.blogdesk.org/
Bloggar, Windows Live Writer and Writely also work, although I don’t use the last 3. -
jafferyme,
Somewhere a while back in these forums or the FAQs I ran across a post with links to a number of free programs that permit batch resizing of photos and in the process conserves your uploading space.
I downloaded FastStone http://www.faststone.org/ and find it does the job nicely. One is able to load a bunch of photos and resize them. I set the “canvas” size 1o pixels larger than the photo size to hold the text away from the photo.

*lol* [She kicks herself for not remembering this.] :)
Quoting Mark in the content at the FAQs link aboveThere are many programs which you can use to optimize images.
Packages such as Photoshop / Paint Shop Pro will do it, but there is no need to spend money on doing this. These are free:
– Ifranview
– Picasa
– GIMP
– Photofiltre
– FastStone
– Pixia -
