Sizing Digital Images for WordPress – Photographer
-
Can anyone tell me about sizing images for WordPress blogs? I am a photographer and am just starting my blog on wordpress – I had it somewhere else before – and am trying to figure out how to best size my images for WordPress. Are there guidelines somewhere? I know that the blogs all display images in different sizes depending on the setup, but I am guessing there is an optimal size for all WordPress images? If anyone has any guideance on this it would be much appreciated! Thanks!!

Others are better than I at this – but if you look at
Dashboard >> Settings >> Media
You will see the sizes for your theme.
Uploading large files is bad, wastes space and slows load time. Also putting high quality pictures makes them more of a target for theft. I don’t do a Photo site, but I scale the images down then compress them to reduce file size.

Auxclass’s second suggestion is correct, for the reasons he mentioned.
I checked one of the images you have inserted, and it’s 3500×2622 pixels, 6.2MB in size. That’s a no-no. Use an image editing application to scale down copies of your images to reasonable dimensions, and upload/insert those copies.
For a more precise answer, we need to know a couple things:
a) Have you settled on Spun?
b) What do you want to happen when you click on an image you have inserted?
If you’re not aware of the available options, see this post of mine:
http://wpbtips.wordpress.com/2009/04/26/images-the-three-link-options/Auxclass’s first suggestion is wrong: Settings >> Media doesn’t display the sizes for your theme, it provides some options you should adjust depending on the theme you’re using. More on this later.
