sizing images –making them bigger
-
I am having trouble sizing my photographs. Take the photo in the post “Central Park girl in her summer clothes.” I have a large file to work with (4.2 mb; dimensions 4871x 3005) But when I post the photo (using the largest setting) it still comes out small on the blog.
When I either go to the media library or click on “edit” I can resize the photo larger, but then when I hit “update” and go to the blog to see the picture, it is still the same small size. What is wrong?
ps: When I click on the image at the actual blog post, it fills the screen as it is supposed to do. But I want the baseline image to be bigger.

I am seeing that image be as wide as the particular theme you are using will allow and when I click on it, I get the full size image.
If you are looking for a larger display, you may need to look into a different theme that isn’t as narrow in that main column area. Does that make sense?

That does make sense. How can I identify the themes that have a wider display than the one I am using? Thank you, Paul

Have you thought about just trying Mistylake? It is the updated version of Mistylook:
-
Big Brother is another pretty clean and simple looking theme with a sidebar:

I just switched to Mistylake, but my edit button has disappeared from under each post. I notice that i can now enlarge the header photo.
But can you tell me how this theme is better for me than Mistylook in terms of sizing photos in my posts which was the basis for my inquiry.
Thanks Paul

I found the edit button at the bottom of the Mistylake theme.
There is an issue with the iPhone ap. The sections that show “recent posts” and “recent comments” appear for a few seconds as you scroll down and then vanish.
-
Another problem with iPhone ap for Mistylake—there is no sidebar, so none of the widgets I can see on my desktop: search box, no archives, no visits counter and no text box. Please advise. Many of my readers follow my blog by using iPhones. Do I have to abandon this Mistylake theme to get them back where they were before…i.e. Misty Look?
Thanks, Paul @ Blogfinger

The problem on the iPhone with Misty Lake was seeing the side bar which contains: recent posts, recent comments, site stats, and search.
Note that I had to go back to the original Misty Look because of this problem with my iPhone users. You probably checked my site after I went back to my original theme which had no problems with iPhones.
Thanks, Paul @Blogfinger

Sorry I didn’t answer your question. I was contacted by some iPhone users who were having problems finding the search box and the side bar. I don’t know if they were viewing the site with the WordPress app or going directly to it with their browser.
I also found another problem with Misty Lake on my desktop. When I was editing a post with a photograph, the images were coming out flat–ie loss of contrast. When I put my cursor over the image, the contrast improved markedly. That was the main reason I had to abandon Misty Lake immediately, because my blog has many serious photos.
Thanks, Paul

I would encourage you to experiment with some other themes until you find one that fits. The best way to do that might be to set up a throwaway “test” WordPress.com site.
