Sketch slider images appearing twice on front page

Hi there, how do I keep the the project images I’m using in my Sketch theme Slider at the top from reappearing in the porfolio images below?

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

    Hi,

The easiest way to accomplish that would probably be through CSS customization, which is out of my realm.

How to do it without CSS customization:
    1. To the static front page assign either the default or full width page templates. Do not assign the portfolio page template.
    2. Add a portfolio shortcode to the content of the static front page. Include in the shortcode project tags and project types using the corresponding attributes (include_type, include_tag), but…
    3. Exclude from the shortcode any project types or tags used in projects displayed in the featured content slider.

    Clarification:
The “include_type” and “include_tag” aren’t for including tags in the displayed portfolio. What these do is cause only projects with the specified types or tags to be displayed.

From the “Attributes” section of the Portfolio Shortcode support page:

    • include_type: display specific Project Types. Defaults to all. (comma-separated list of Project Type slugs)
    • include_tag: display specific Project Tags. Defaults to all. (comma-separated list of Project Tag slugs)

Thanks for the reply. Really wanted to utilise the slider function if possible. I notice on the Sketch Demo the slider displays images that don’t feature in the portfolio images below. Can this only be done with CSS customisation?

Of course. I had forgotten that the slider only appears on a page with the portfolio page template assigned. Sorry about that.

Actually the Sketch demo does not display images in the slider that don’t feature among the portfolio below. A couple of them, “Look On the Sunnyside,” and “Ornaments” are on the second page. Click “previous” at the bottom of the portfolio to see them.

However, the Sketch featured content slider needn’t display only featured images from projects. It will display featured images attached to posts and pages as well, as long as those post or pages have the proper featured content tag assigned at Customize > Featured Content.

The Featured Content section of the Sketch theme guide says:

To set up Sketch‘s Featured Content area:

    1. Navigate to Appearance → Customize → Featured Content.
    2. Enter the name of a tag.
    3. Click the blue “Save” button at the bottom.
    4. Create a post, page, or portfolio item with a Featured Image.
    5. Give the post the tag you declared under Appearance → Customize → Featured Content.

The Sketch theme is the not only the only theme I know of that has a slider that can feature posts, pages, and portfolios all mixed together, but it is the only theme that I’m aware of which allow tags to be assigned to static pages (although I suspect there might be others that do so).

    Correction:
Change “posts, pages, and portfolios” to “posts, pages, and portfolio projects” in my previous post.

Thanks heaps. Have been mucking around with it most of the day and figured out if I keep the Featured Slider images reserved to specific Pages and not Portfolio images like you said it keeps them separated nicely. Thanks again!

    You’re welcome.

I’m glad you found a satisfactory workaround, because I do think that if only projects were among the featured content items, you would need CSS customization to prevent the featured images from reappearing in the portfolio on the portfolio page template.
